This is honestly the biggest thing :

But it isn’t just Australia’s fault, with the English football landscape evolving and moving the goalposts.

At the start of the 2000s, when the league was full of Aussies, around 38 per cent of foreign players in the Premier League came from members of the Commonwealth.

However, as the game became more global, so did the nationalities of players plying their trade in the EPL.

By 2010, those from Commonwealth nations were down to about 1 in 4 players, and now it is closer to 1 in 10.

During our ‘golden generation’, top talent from South American powerhouses Brazil and Argentina and leading European nations focused on La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga as that is where the money was.

But now the Premier League clubs are more cashed up than ever and can hand-pick the best international talent, which has only increased the competition for spots.

The EPL in the Viduka/Kewell era was still almost entirely British/Commonwealth players. Now it's filled with foreigners and a sprinkling of British players, and the vast majority of the level of player who were in the EPL in the early 2000s are in the Championship instead.

A team like Sunderland has given out 33 starts 3 games into the season - 28 to players from Europe/Africa/South America and 5 to guys from Northern Ireland. And they're the sort of team/profile that even 5 years ago would have been predominantly English.

Wish they could have played more together at Arsenal...

...if we got both together at their peak, on pure defensive ability alone I think it would have been the hardest CB pair for any striker to play against in the Prem era.

Good point, I never thought of it that way, I do still see & hear about Australian players in the Championship & the lower EFL comps.

We have fired our manager today and replaced him with Steve Cooper.

I was expecting the previous guys to get fired, the job seemed to be a too big step for him. He came as an analyst, became assistant and then replaced the prev. manager who got fired, so it was his first manager job.

For those who doesn't know Brøndby is a historic danish club with a huge pressure on the manager from the fans and media a like. So having a manager have his first manager job here was a bit of a gamble.

Surprised to see Cooper!
Anyone who watched much of his teams in the past? I don't recall his Leicester or Forest sides much in terms of style.

Özil at 10 And Emery Out

Such a random set of players involved in this move lol. Hipster cult hero Julian Weigl, quoted with a 100m pricetag every transfer window but no one has watched him play Savic, golazo merchant Malcom and then Darwin Nunez

AM made it to Reddit. Quite a mild take compared to a lot I see

I'm not logged onto Reddit here, just saw it on the front page but on my actual account I have r/gunners muted, it's that insufferable. Crazy to be blocking out your own team's sub

Some of the takes from AM at that time are funny, but kinda understandable too... especially in the heat of the moment of a defeat.

We just lost to United in the FA cup semi and Chelski in the Champions League quarter, add that to how we lost the Prem in 2003 too... being worried that we might **** up a possible Unbeaten Title isn't that crazy!

Why aren't football fans allowed to be nervous anymore ffs...the sport is supposed to make you a bit emotionally crazy at times 😅
