Rate Our Summer Transfer Window

Not having a top class forward is disappointing, again. I hear the case for saying that we have the numbers in attack but I wonder how many would back Kai or Viktor to get 20 PL goals, create something out of nothing or score that last minute winner on a fairly consistent basis. Post Auba, i haven't seen us with a CF worthy of the name. Praying for Saka to remain in God mode

I gave it a 4/10 purely because of what wasn't done with the attack.

It's nuts because even getting Rogers would have put it at 8/10 - Rogers, Bruno G, Konsa would have been elite business.

5/10 for me we’ve had much much worse windows it’s an exaggeration to say otherwise. Bruno is a great signing that improves us but the lack of a level raising attacking signing after all the noise from the manager and owner makes it an average one.

In any other context, it's a 7/10 window because Bruno G is legitimately a level raiser for us in central midfield but not adding to the attack is ****ing egregious.

My original post was 3/10 but I was rattled.

I’m still teetering between a 3 and a 4 though.

The main objective was to strengthen the attack. I remember before the Bruno signing, most on here would have just been happy with a cheaper CM to back up Rice Myles and Zubi, to maximise the attack.

To make the attack even worse though it just amazing incompetence, especially as it’s obvious Mikel just doesn’t fancy Gyok.

Will upgrade it to a 4 because Konsa and Bruno are good win now signings.

This is, to me, the angriest and most disappointed I've ever been after a window.

We are extremely close to being clear of everyone in the league, creating a dynasty, dominating, and potentially winning our first ever CL.

Our attack was awful last season, and to not take advantage of our situation and upgrade it, but instead on paper effectively downgrade it and reduce our numbers, is nothing short of incompetence.

Technically it's a 4/10 because we did buy some decent players, but to not take advantage of where we are and where this team is in its cycle, and let another season go by with a huge glaring hole or two in attack, is just shocking it really is.

You can call it hyperbole but genuinely, this window should lead to some sackings if we had anything about us.

Agreed - maybe I'm being too harsh but we've had 3 summer windows to upgrade the LW and we haven't done so which is why I'm being mega punitive. I said in any other context, Konsa + Bruno G would be a 7/10 window because Bruno G especially is a level raiser in MF for us.

Positives: Adding Bruno and Konsa strengthens the midfield and back line.
Negatives: Attack looks worse and with less depth. While I hope he does well there is no guarantee Tzolis can replace what Trossard and Martinelli brought to the team or that he can reproduce his success in Belgium in the EPL.

In terms of signing proven quality players, it's our best transfer window since 95/96 when we signed Bergkamp and Platt. So I gave it 8/10.

Bruno G - Starts for Brazil and is probably the best CM in the league after Rice.

Konsa - Starting CB for England, just won the Europa cup and finished in the top 4 with Villa. Has been one of the top 5 CBs in the PL for the past couple of seasons. Starts for any other PL team.

Hincapie - Previous Bundesliga TOTY and is pobably the best LB in the league after Calafiori.

Tzolis - Voted best player in the Belgium league. Extremely impressive G/A record and more productive than Thiago, Trossard, Doku and KDB were in that league.

Im sticking with my 5/10 but I really do feel im being soft tbh. The disregard for our forward quality borders on negligence at this point. I think they may be purposefully doing it. Feels like some sort of sabotage or something to have the same exact need as we did in 2023.

It's a 5 for me, I don't really count hincapie as that was agreed last season.
I think we signed good players but selling 3 attackers and only brining in 1 is quite insane to me.

I think we have enough quality to win the league again and maybe a cup but if we wanna go for the CL I think we need to make a serious attacking signing in January.

7 - quite satisfactory overall:

- Konsa and Bruno were fantastic business, although admittedly it took me time to warm to the idea of signing the former, but he's obviously crucial with Saliba and Timber out.

- Tzolis we have to wait and see but could be really good.

- Meslier....erm ok?

The only signing we're really missing is the marquee LW, but I don't think it's resting on our laurels to say our squad is stacked regardless and should still be favourites for the title.

5/10 for me.

I like our signings and I like we manage to find good solutions for departing players.

But I dont feel we did enough of what we should have expected after PL win, CL final, Arteta comments and Ornstein tweet earlier this summer. I know posters on here like to exercise who is really to blame but I think in this regard we failed as unit from manager to DoF and scouts and from there to the board and owners.

But time to lock in and back the team. We can and should improve our general attacking play this season with the players we have.

- signings are all quality players that make sense
- as you say, leaned into our strengths and didn't upset the apple cart by doing anything weird
- sold the right players

- but, yet again, haven't added the x-factor player up front that we so badly need

If they signed a Rogers or an Alvarez or a Vini this would be a 9/10 window. But instead we did everything right except the biggest thing that probably needed to happen.

To me a 5/10 window is basically a 'holding status quo' net neutral window and grades below that are the team or the team's financial position getting progressively worse as a result of the window.

I think the squad now - with Bruno G in particular - looks stronger than the squad last season, plus the overall net spend not being super high probably sets us up well for future windows. The last couple years we were right on the edge of FPP (hence the fake 'loans' for Raya and Hincapie to defer money) and we probably aren't now - nice to get 120 million incoming instead of 10 million. So I think 6/10 is pretty fair.
