Raul can do one. 8 points from 4th and not looking likely to improve upon that any time soon.

Complacent board. Gazidis and Wenger basically reviewed themselves for years, too. At least Wenger had sort of earned that right, even if it was basically wrong.

If the board doesn't do its work and hold the executives responsible, everyone can do what they want. That's why imo every proper board should have one or two football people on it. You don't take the first muppet to cross your way, but for a reviewing board position you don't need the best of the best. For Arsenal you maybe take Ian Wright as an Arsenal legend plus someone from outside the club for a bit of less tainted perspective, some recently retired ex coach or DoF or CEO or something like that. Maybe you even get someone from a different sport - the guy won't need to actually work something out, just have a perspective on when the board needs to act in relation to the sporting situation.

I think Wenger knew the disconnect (from reality) in the board, so he kept most of the power to himself. same with SAF, and to a less extent Mourinho (at Chelsea).

But this would be true for most of the businesses. Board members are generally kept away from the production floor.

In most businesses, the board doesn't interfere in matters that often. They just look for results. They may have a review once a year or twice a year atmost. They don't normally pro-actively jump in and make changes. If things look like **** in the review, they take a decision.

With Arsenal, I am just not sure what they consider as results. Is it the performance of team on the field? Or is it just the money we earn? From the looks of it, I think it's the latter. They took a decision about Wenger only after the stadium seats were left empty. Our performances did not bother them at all. I heard that there were empty stands in the Southampton match. If this continues, that will force them to make changes.

The right decision concerning the next manager may salvage Raul a bit, he still made some good moves in the summer.

What's Edu's job btw? It's all Raul so far. Is he there just for the cameras?

I read in the Athletic article that Edu arrival had helped Emery a lot. But too little too late.

Also, Edu seems best mates with Freddie

Thanks! Haven't read that. That's good to know. Also heard that Freddie was given freedom to select his staff and apparently Gilberto Silva and Pires might join.

Feels good having so many proven winners and golden generation members involved in some form. Doesn't mean it will be successful but the club may regain some identity.

Mourinho had no power at Chelsea. Abramovich could buy whoever he wanted and make Jose play them.

Mourinho knew how to handle Abramovich in his first spell there. He even managed to use Shevchenko.

Second spell was a shambles because abramovich had other things on his mind
