Now that I think about it, it doesn’t make any sense, Martinez surely takes that LCB spot in that system. They need an RCB much more (with De Ligt central).

Usually it’s the CB in middle of a back three that drops deep and starts/builds the play and sets the tempo. If it was up to me I’d like that to be Licha over De Ligt given his qualities. I think there’s more room for us to sign a LCB than a RCB.

Carra was saying that their LCB was the best on the ball and they built a lot through him. Not sure how true it is though.

If you put Martinez central then De Ligt is at a massive disadvantage IMO. He should not be playing as a wide CB he’d get smoked. I can imagine inside forwards twisting and turning him coming in from wide areas.

Ultimately this is the big drawback of 3 at the back. You need specialist players and have to restructure your squad.

For example, classic fullbacks can arguably be too weak defensively for a wide CB role and not good enough going forward (or good enough legs/engine) for the wing back role. There’s specialists who can be great in wingback / LM/RM positions.

I look at Mazraoui and feel like that’s the case. Is he the kind of guy who can run up and down all game? Not sure. Shaw can style wise but he would probably get injured even more doing that.

You need more CBS as well for this system, and very specialised ones who may not be as good in a 4.

It definitely messes with the defence a bit.

In terms of a wing-back, Maz is more suited to it than Shaw is, the former plays with intensity and runs up and down unlike Shaw. Shaw would arguably be more suited as a LCB.

we got Nwaneri we don't have space for him. not sure if he can play winger.

He plays on the right wing for Real, not sure about Turkey but i think for them aswell.

We have Saka there so not sure it is the right move for him if he wants minutes anyway.

No idea if he can play on the left.

Yeah really difficult for a guy to be saka backup nowdays his best position seem it's in this RCM role he'll likely move somewhere if he keep being on bench.

Really, didn’t know Maz has legs like that. Technically there’s no question he’s great on the ball, but didn’t know he has the engine or legs to run up and down like a wingback. These players are usually best when they have a lot of energy and stamina.

I was out getting my cousin a birthday card today and saw this in the "humour" section...

They going free agent mode again they really gonna force Konate to not sign new contract. Bastards.

It’s how they roll these days and it makes sense when you are the most attractive club in world football.

Why pay a fee, when 99% of players want to join anyway and now that tapping up seems to be fully ignored, it seems like such an easy tactic for them.

This is what I expect will happen to Saliba eventually.

It doesn't matter if they sign Konate or whoever next year, when it's on a free, they will keep on at it.

Madness really, how tapping up is just allowed now.

Is it really that much worse than midtable PL clubs going shopping at CL clubs in Europe just because they get massive TV money and funds from their billionaire owners?

Well yeah, at least the clubs then receive a fee.

Madrid just seem to have a side tactic where they convince players to run down a contract and get them on a free with the club receiving no money.

Obviously they receive a fee but it's not like it does not affect them, other clubs will know you've got that PL money burning a hole in your pocket and jack their prices up plus you always have the risk of the new signing not being a hit. There's also the fact in many cases clubs would rather keep the player but have their hand forced because some sh*t outfit like Forest or West Ham waving a wad of cash.

Overall point is that predatory behaviour is what you have to expect from bigger and more successful clubs, dodgy clubs like Bournemouth snapping up players from AC Milan shouldn't be part of the game.
