Remember Davor Suker?

I remember him being a big name player who didn’t really impress and his most notable moment was missing a penalty in the UEFA cup final.

He was godly in the 98 World Cup in Croatia’s run to the semi final.

Some team they had back then with Suker, Boban, Prosinecki, Boksic and others
Boksic didn't play in that tournament due to an injury. Wonder if they could get through France with him in the lineup - though France were monstruous defensively and Vlaovic did do well as Suker's partner.

Wreh in my opinion was our worst CF after Kaba Diwara (worst ever player for Arsenal in my life time) and Sanogo.

My enmity for him is eternal. Just converting two of those chances against Leeds at Elland Road would've made us back to back champions for the first time in the PL era & denied United their fabled Treble.

Tom Mix

a.k.a. Vyvian Carruthers Blenkinsop Smythe
Ran out of steam halfway through the season. Past it when he joined us. Also missed a penalty in the UEFA cup final. His stats for Croatia were way beyond anything he ever did in club football but by the time he got here he was cooked. 9 goals for us, most of them is his first games, and 2 for West Ham. Meh.

It's the kind of desperation signings we were forced to make when there was no money.

I mainly remember that one absolute beauty he scored for us and him winning the Golden Boot. A very good player, but sadly we got him when he was past his peak, making the transition to the PL very difficult.

So a kind of Zlatan to United signing vibe?

This seems pretty harsh.

He was signed along with Henry in the wake of Anelka leaving and after after getting a fair few minutes early in the year Henry/Kanu essentially boxed him out and he only started 3 games after November 1. He was a guy who seemed like needed coverage for the position before the season but quickly became surplus to requirements after Henry broke out as a superstar.

In the end 8 goals from 8 starts in the PL probably wasn't too bad and his goals/minute was actually really good.

'No money' wasn't an issue in 1999.
