That's a bizarre statement, imo. I find this current squad we have very likeable. Especially compared to the days we had guys like Guendouzi, Mustafi or Özil.

He's a very unique player. I'm not sure I'd go as far as saying he should or could be a left 8 in the way I want that role played but his ability to progress the ball and make things happen in the final third are certainly assets at LB. It's on Arteta to figure out the best use for him.

Yeah, I just think it might accentuate his best qualities and minimise his defensive weaknesses (in terms of one v one defending, lack of explosive pace).

I hear what you're saying and I don't disagree. I think it would require rethinking that role but it's not impossible, I guess. Like I said, Arteta needs to figure out the best way to use him. It will be interesting to see how he does it.

He is worse defensively than MLS but at least he don't do last ditch tackles to give the referee a pathetic excuse to send him off.

But I really like Calafiori, he is top technically, offers something different and has a real presence about him. Italians are always welcome in the squad

i think play at 8 not only need attack minded but also need defense minded unfortunately he cannot defend, poor track back, poor defensive awareness, has no pace, slow pressing opponent to opponent back when opponent receive ball just like he too late gave pressure to savinho against mancity away which made savinho has space to make movement cut inside and gave ball to haaland and we get conceded because of that)

It's quintessential A-M to want a technical defender to play in midfield.

The thing people who push for that miss is that what stands out as a defender might not stand out as a midfielder. Even Trent is less impactful as a midfielder than as a playmaking RB and you'd think he wouldn't look that different.
