I think, as a corollary of this, that we should say this could be good for Pennant, or maybe Bentley. One thing Van Persie is not is a right winger - and will not be challenging for Freddie's potentially under-threat place. This could mean Pennant coming back and being in a position to genuinely challenge for the role as a specialist. Or Bentley's conversion to the position - which he inherited from Pennant in the England Under-21s - continuing...

Whatever, the reports from the Dutch Media - particularly from the radio - sound very definite about Arsenal's involvement with Van Persie...

Robbens also a lot more expensive! Surey this guys an absolute bargain! i can think of far worse players who have recently moved clubs for a larger sum.

Robben's already signed with Chelsea.

For 4 million, RvP seems like a steal, considering what we've paid for mediocre talent in the past.

van Persie would be an exceptional signing. Its about time we signed an adequate back-up for Pires. I love the fact that Wenger is intent on making Arsenal the fastest team on the planet. Another potentially great youngster looks to be on his way to Arsenal.

How fast is Van Persie? Speed might not really be that vital if he is to become Pires' replacement, but it would help in the counterattacks..Can anyone who has seen him play compare him to a player at Arsenal in terms of speed?

Bergkamp, doesn't look that fast, but fast enough

Click on van Persie and you can see some goals from him.

Cheers for that, aap.

His right foot doesn't seem too bad either, also a good header of the ball. Looks an out and out striker to me which is what we need. He could be useful.

I don't think the transfer fee will be more then £2.5m. He seems a bargain if you compare his fee to what Chelsea are paying for another highly talented young Dutchman Arjen Robben.

It's announced on the arsenal.com website now, along with a load of pictures of the guy... Which means it's a 100% done deal. The only thing they ever got wrong was the Vieira contract thing, which wasn't completely wrong, just premature...

like most of our transfers, the fee is undisclosed by us. Feyenoord may have said something though, which is where the 2.3 million figure comes from...
