I don’t watch Madrid often but I whenever I have watched them he has rarely stood out.
I just dont get the hype. Sure he will be an upgrade on Martinelly but even Eze playing LW would be an upgrade. Honestly for me Rogrygo vs Eze is close. And in terms of total outlay its going to be Rodrygo = Eze + Noni.
I would be over the moon if we get both Rodrygo + Eze. But Eze seems more of a priority for me.
And I also like Noni personally. Depends on the outlay but for <40m all-in he would be a good buy.
Make no mistake.

Rodrygo would be a game-changer.

He can do everything. Dribble. Shoot. Pass. Left foot. Right foot. From distance or in the box. Headers. And he’s not playing in his strongest position.

He is clearly interested. Thats not the issue here.

The issue is that other big clubs will be in for him and I don’t think we have the minerals to do what’s needed to be done. We’re a big club with imposter syndrome.
Rice?

Think the only barrier to this signing is financial. He'd be happy to come to us especially seeing we've signed an actual striker, easy to be optimistic that we're in for a chance at PL and CL and contribute heavily to that.

It's obviously a big barrier, especially if we get Eze, but I don't think it's about other clubs or worrying he'd want to go else where.

To be fair, we are a tier 2 big club rising and brushing up against tier 1 big clubs. Normal to have a bit of imposter syndrome in the beginning. ;)

Yeah but basically he need to make choice just like many players. So far I only think us seriously interested.

Liverpool have other issue to deal with now. PSG could be interested but Rodrygo won't start there Bayern Munich are the only real competitor

Are they making excuses? Makes sense not to have two starting quality LWs earning near 450k pw in the team at the same time (with one losing value for no longer being a starter). They have to pull off a switch-a-roo if it is to work.

Especially after having two backup ST at 530k with one on the bench and other always on the treatment table.

Saka 300k+ (new deal)
Havertz 265k
Jesus 265k
Gyok 200k+
Martinelli 180k
Nelson 100k
Trossard 90k

That itself is 75m-80m in wages annually just for the front 3. You cannot add one more high earner unless you move Jesus/Martinelli.

Also Martinelli has 2y remaining on his contract and he is a Brazilian international same as Rodrygo. So you cant have one backup to other. That kills his national callup chances.

Only way I can see Rodrygo coming is if Martinelli can move on.

In the long term yes, it doesn’t make sense. The point though is that opportunities for a club like ours to get a player like Rodrygo at the price points being mooted are quite rare. So you just do it, whether you manage to sell Nelli now or not. Take a short term hit and sell him next year.

At what point in the last 3 years have we had a genuine opportunity to get an elite attacker? I genuinely can’t remember. We could go another 3-4 years until the next one. A lot of stars need to align for something like this to happen because we aren’t Real or Barca or Bayern or City or PSG where world class players fall in to their laps.

We are the tier below the biggest but sometimes we act like we’re a midtable club. ****ing Villa would have pulled the trigger on Rodrygo by now.

Jesus, Nelson and Trossard are most likely gone before the 26/27 season tbf. So that's £23,6m saved yearly just when they leave.

If we go big this summer with Gyökeres (£200k/-£60m), Rodrygo (£300k/-£75m), Eze (£150k/-£60m), Nørgaard (£70k/-£10m), Mosquera (£60k/-£18m) and Kepa (£100k/-£5m) then we'll add £880k to our wagebill (not including the transfer sums), but we've also reduced it quite significantly with Partey (£200k), Jorginho (£110k), Tomiyasu (£100k) and Tierney (£100k) leaving a total reduction of £510k.

If we actually did add these players and also sell Zinchenko and Trossard on top of this, I think we could manage it. Next season we would also basically have no need to buy any players aswell.

They (Jesus, Nelson and Trossard) will be replaced when they are gone. Not in anticipation of them going. That is not how squads work.

And on the topic of wagebill reduction.
Partey 200k
Jorginho 110k
Tomi 100k
Tierney 100k
Zinchenko 150k (hopefully)
Viera/Sambi (were on loan so not counting)

Thats 660k savings

But new deals for Saka/Saliba/Gabriel/MLS/Ethan would easily eat 400k+ from that.

Signings close: 600k
Gyok 200k
Zubi 150k
Nørgaard 80k
Kepa 100k
Mosquera 60k

So we have already increased the wage bill by 350k+/week.

And this is just Wage bill. Squad cost is Wage Bill + Amortized cost. And we are increasing our Amortized cost aswell by a huge margin this year which is already very high.

All this to say after Gyok I assume we will be in 1 in 1 out mode for the whole squad.

Martinelli. -> Rodrygo
Trossard -> Eze/Noni
Nelson -> Noni/Eze
Kiwior -> Hato

Actually you’ll often find the best teams buying replacements a year before the incumbent leaves.

It’s not uncommon at all. Darwin Nunez for example was bought in ostensibly to be Firminho’s replacement (lolz i know but still) and he was brought in a year before Firminho was leaving.

Arsenal has just brainwashed you all into thinking that you can only do a strict one in one out in attack.

The club made those decisions. They need to fix them. Screwing up previously is not an excuse for delaying progress when it's within your grasp. They've made things more difficult on themselves, sure but it's also on them to fix it. If a player like this is available, they need to be in for him seriously and deal with the wage issue secondarily.

Liverpool have certainly pushed the boat out for Wirtz despite having some very high earners and players they need to shift. We need to do the same. Stan is worth $18 billion, getting a tax break from Donald and we're in great shape in terms of PSR. There's no excuse. I believe we actually had a higher wage bill a few years ago without CL football so I don't want to hear any financial excuses from KSE.

I think Liverpool anyway had space for 1 more attacker. We are already at 7 attackers currently.
Also Jesus has still 2 yrs on his contract. Its not certain he leaves in 2026.
(Technically Gyok is already replacing Jesus actually because no team has 3 players on 200k+ wage for a single position. Depends how we look at that).

Great to hear that there are interest for all those players that we need to get rid off.

Martinelli will get verbally abused by fans at training ground if he refused to join the saudi club and blocking our chance to sign Rodrygo.

Arsenal Quotes

I knew we were very different, that he (Ferguson) had a total hold over his club while at that time I was still more of a coach. I also recognised his huge qualities. He knew how to surround himself with the right people and didn't rest on his laurels when he was successful.
