From a podcast (podpah):

Asked if he knows whether Rodrygo is coming to Arsenal, Gabriel told the Podpah podcast in Brazil: “I don’t know. I would like it but who knows? Rodrygo for me is a phenomenon.

“People are mentioning his name a lot. If it depended on me, of course. As I said, he is a phenomenon.”

Only issue with Rodrygo is we still end up lacking someone with blistering pace.

The athleticism of PL fullbacks is a level above anything in Europe imo.

Speed isn’t everything of course but every top team has a player or two that’s rapid AND good at football. We still need ours.

I agree, isolated on the wing I doubt Rodrygo can do much which is a worry. Would prob rather someone raw who at least has the athleticism, like Malick Fofana,

I know everyone rates Rodrygo, but for our specific need I don’t think he is suited.

This guy is not going to enjoy the LW touchline shifts in Arteta's system. No overlapping fullback and forced to combine with a CB at 10 instead of Bellingham or Mbappe.

Martinelli is actually very underrated as a touchline winger. I'd much rather upgrade on the Rice in attacking midfield than buy a new winger.

yeah those videos are damning, Arteta will waste most of the money this window to have his own brand of winger in Rodrinelli.

Yeah he doesn't have that blistering top speed you'd get from the likes of Leao/Williams but he's quick off the mark and a very good dribbler in tight spaces.

Given we spend 90% camped around the final 3rd the blistering pace isn't that essential but it would still be nice. Feel you could get some high potential youngster to add that.

We should ask most important question, is he capable as winger to break low and mid block?
I saw stats few days ago, we are team that faces most low blocks in Europe.

This table also tells a lot.

How many points did the Premier League teams collect against teams of different regions of the final table?

We were the best in the league last season against teams who finished on positions 1 to 7, better than Liverpool. We won 21 pts against these teams, Liverpool won 20pts.

The difference are teams from 8 to 13, mid table teams. We won only 16 pts against these teams, Liverpool have won 24. This is why Liverpool have won the title, not us.
This is horribly bad, only 16 pts against 6 teams who finished from position 8 to 13 (Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham, Palace, Everton).
This is only 16 pts from 12 matches.
These clubs are our Achilles' heel, they usually play mid and low block.

The answer is simple, as LW we need player who can break low and mid block, with pace, dribble and/or shots.

Rodrygo is just an upgrade of Trossard or maybe Jesus's replacement. Thats why i said we miss a profile like Leao.
Liverpool has many profiles like that Luiz Diaz, Gakpo, Salah, Nunez
PSG had Barcola, Dembele, Doue, Krava

And Leao is "just" an upgrade of Martinelli. I think you underestimate how good Rodrygo is.

But don't think we will go for Leao as he just don't fit Arteta's philosophy

Blonde Brigade Grand Wizard
Williams
Leao
Rodrygo

In that order.
In order:

Williams
Ndiaye
Simmons
Rodgers
Semenyo
Gordon
Rodrgyo

I would be happy with any of the above signings.

Leao? Both Martinelli and Trossard are much better players. Milan fans hate him with a passion.

Mitch

Blonde Brigade Grand Wizard
Ndiaye over Rodrygo?

Better dribbler, finisher, more physical, suits our style of play and the PL better.

I'd still take Rodrgyo and be happy with the potential signing, there's just better options in my view.
