Arsenal are believed to be tracking Portuguese starlet Micael Ruben, as opposed to his Nacional team-mate Nene.

Reports in the English press have suggested The Gunners have been keeping tabs on goalscoring sensation Nene, having sent scouts out to Portugal of late.

Nene is one of the brightest prospects in the Portuguese league, but he does not qualify for EU citizenship and it is highly unlikely the Brazilian would be granted a work permit to play in England.

As such, it is believed that Ruben is the object of Arsenal’s attention. Gunners scouts were in attendance as Nacional beat Vitoria Guimaraes on Friday, a game in which Nene scored twice and Ruben once.

Ruben, 22, is yet to represent Portugal at full international level but respected judges expect that to change in the near future.

Arsène Wenger is famed for plucking youngsters from relative obscurity and taking their careers forward and there are suggestions Ruben could be the next on the list

Re: Micael Ruben

I hate those kinds of articles. They never say what position a player is. Apparently he's a midfielder and his name is Rúben Micael.

A bullshit article and probably a bullshit link. So there! :p

Re: Micael Ruben

You can kinda tell from the way the article is written it's just plain speculation. First they THINK it's Nene. Then they realise Nene can't get a work permit so they speculate on the only other player who scored. Can't believe this is worth opening a new thread. Could have easily gone in the starlets thread, couldn't it M+D?

Just for that we'll sign him now KY! And, no, 22 y/o is not starlet-ish. That's positively senior citizen territory in our squad.

Re: Micael Ruben

^^^ Exactly - a 22 year old is a guaranteed first team veteran in our squad.

Re: Micael Ruben

So how old is Nene then?
Just because he can't get a permit NOW didn't stop AW signing Vela or our young Brazilian LB Pedro(???).

Re: Micael Ruben

Nacional have not received an official approach from Arsenal for midfielder Ruben Micael.

Portuguese press reports have linked the Gunners with the 22-year-old, who is joint-owned by Nacional and Uniao.

Arsenal, who were also recently said to be keen on Nacional's Nene, have yet to comment on the rumours.

Micael is highly-rated and it is claimed Nacional could be open to offers in the summer.

A statement read: "Right now we are only aware of the rumours in the newspapers."
