Then the option was Moutinho, a much better and mobile option.
Sure, but that's nothing that discredits Ruben Neves' prospects as a transfer target. Had Moutinho been younger, he'd make for a great transfer target himself. And the other option, the one that actually ended up entering the game and drastically changing it, Renato Sanches, is actually my favorite target for the CM position.

As @Riou pointed out above, Portugal just happens to be stacked. João Félix spent the entire game on the bench, too. Neves being on the bench is a terrible way to discredit his status as a player.

Could we end up just doing Lokonga and Ben Whire for the two CM additions, Ben White primarily a CB, but also utility? Not sure if we would do another CM option, apart from CAM/AM. Might sell Elneny or let him see out his contract, maybe Willock as a #8 option also. Would be a gamble not going with a little more experience and know-how with players like Bissouma and Neves.

Certainly possible. If that happens Id like to see the board sign them and then sign Edu and Artetas P45s. As we would be well short of the quality in midfield to close the gap on top 4

.... Unless the plan is three in the middle with a couple of technical, goalscoring midfielders either side of a deep playmaker

ESR/Aouar. Partey/ Lokonga Sabitzer/Willock

It really doesn't, since that overly defensive choice almost cost Portugal the victory against a vastly inferior side.
William Carvalho isn't a defensive choice though, he's like for like. They both sit deep and spray long passes to either wing.

But I do agree that Neves being on the bench for Portugal doesn't really mean anything.

Not surprising really, Wolves want to sell to help a rebuild we want him for less than 40 youd imagine and 40 isnt going to help you rebuild much at the moment.
It been reported they want 35m but if we end up getting for 30m or even less that very good

Thats not too bad at all actually. Surely we have other targets if we're not happy with that, could be different targets for different price ranges and it pushes him nearer a higher performing target I guess?
