Senderos's season is in danger

Philippe Senderos is in danger of missing the rest of Arsenal's campaign through injury.

The Swiss Under-21 international - signed for only £500,000 from Servette in the summer - has yet to play a competitive first-team game since his move to London, though he impressed during the pre-season tour of Austria.

It was during those friendlies that the 18-year-old, who played top-flight football in Switzerland at the age of 16, picked up a back injury and no sooner had that cleared up than he suffered a stress fracture of the foot.

He is now able to run again and Arsenal will monitor his progress over the next four weeks. If there is no reaction, he could be involved in first-team action by February.

But if there is still pain, surgery is the next step and that would rule him out until next season.

Senderos was described as the long-term successor to Tony Adams and his absence is a major blow to Arsène Wenger, who had planned to involve him in the Carling Cup.

But Wenger is also adamant that injured players - especially young ones with long futures at Arsenal ahead of them - are never forced to play when not fully fit and regards any operations on the youngsters as a last resort.

One regular first-team player who should be back for Boxing Day is Cameroon defender Lauren.

He has been out for the past month because of a suspension after the Old Trafford brawl in September and a knee injury.

He showed his improving fitness in the 2-0 Carling Cup quarter-final win at West Bromwich Albion last Tuesday and should be fit to return to Premiership action against Wolves at Highbury on Boxing Day.

Damn... he's not the first player to have injury problems mess with his chances. Oh well, he's still young and got a bright future ahead of him so shouldn't worry too much.

He's young and we have plenty of depth.

We can afford to give him time to strengthen, heal, and mature into a fine player down the line.

it's tough being 18 and his size, he's gonna suffer til his body settles down. can't wait to see him though...

Poor Senderos, great player with a good future ahead of him. I hope he makes a quick recovery...this is reminiscent of Ali last season, hope he isn't as unlucky as Ali was :(
