Carrick is ****, if his name was Mikele Carrera he'd have spent his entire career in Serie B. Because he was English and could distribute it a bit without running into the box trying to score like a spastic people lost their minds over him.

Wenger really rated him and tried to buy him before Sp**s did.
Difficult to gauge this one really, @2Smokeyy team ridiculous up front but he has zero midfield while @albakos has the best midfield players ever in England but his defence is a bit **** compared to the opposition.
Most likely 2Smokeyy would get overrun because of his poor defensive workrate across the team, great defenders and GK don't mean much when you have six players who don't defend at all

Wenger had a couple duds tbf. Also mostly judging him on what he's done at Sp**s and United, he's not horrible per se but insanely overrated.
Scholes is another bumm, great long passing tbf to him but his disgraceful tackling would see him rack up 50 top flight appearances overall before getting convicted for assault in any league in Europe where refs don't come to fellate his manager before games.

I was actually looking at Vieira/Yaya Toure for Fowler and then sticking either of them in that midfield with Scholes and Carrick.

Vieira and Carrick midfield (which would actually work brilliantly in real life) with Scholes as a 10 and the Henry/Bale/Ronaldo attack...that would actually be the best choice, yeah.

I used to think the above during roughly those 2006-2009 period when our team would always come up short against them and our fans used to say “the Utd style isn’t sustainable” and “teams will start finding them out” but in hindsight it was just a great team that Ferguson built especially in 2008. They were set up for soaking up the pressure and hitting teams on the break.
Just look back at that game in Moscow in the Champions League Final, that was arguably their best ever side and they went toe to toe with Chelsea’s midfield who used to bully and make our midfield look like little yutes in the PL:
United couldn't hack it in the CL bar that one year. Got annihilated by Barcelona couple of times afterwards, that season Bilbao dragged their balls all over them in the EL while they won the league at a canter etc. Only way Carrick looks class is if he's partnered in CM with Howard Webb.

We didn't need Carrick when we were linked to him in 2004, especially with Cesc coming through, but he would have been quality here.
Imagine a Fabregas-Carrick-Diaby or Song midfield 3, would have bee perfect.

No shame in that. Nobody was getting anywhere near those Barcelona sides. Chelsea did do a good job in 2009 and Barcelona cheated their way through but that was also one of the better Chelsea teams which is why I look back at that period and laugh when fans act like football wasn’t stronger back then.

The ref was absolutely atrocious but people gloss over the red for Abidal after Anelka tripped himself up.
That Chelsea team was definitely stronger than that United side imo.

It’s one of the main reasons why I have absolutely zero sympathy for Barcelona now and their “UEFA is mafia” crap. They’ve been robbing teams for years in the CL and now have to cheek to cry about a few decisions that haven’t gone their way.

Lauren for Slyvinho and moving Irwin to LB wouldn't be a bad shout either, or even Aguero for Fowler maybe too, would have Bobby over Bale if we are just judging it on Prem careers too.
