Yep, I've just mentionned him in the other new keeper topic.

He has played 2 games now with the Belgian national team. We lost both games, but not due to him. (0-2 against Servia-Montenegro and 4-0 against Egypt)

In my opinion (and I've seen him play a couple of times) he's an above average keeper, who can become a good keeper. But now not yet ready for a big club like Arsenal or Man U.
Also he isn't that good in the air. A strong linekeeper, but I don't think that's enough in England.

I would advice Wenger to let Man U buy Silvio Proto :eek:ops:
Some footage of his game this weekend:

Just after that compilation you can see the match of Beveren, just look at the magnificent free kicks of our Romaric.

he's a good young keeper, who can become a lot better.
I think he would have a place in this arsenal squad but there's probably better material around. Since he's only 21 Proto himself seems to prefer a transfer to a belgian top team, rather than immediately going to a real top team and skipping a step.

He isnt any better than Stuart Taylor. A waste of a signing if we do go for him.

Proto has a contract with La Louviere until 2006, but a clause within this deal allows him to leave for €625,000.

Yeesh, that's not much, eh?

I'd also rather we went for Stekelenburg, though.

Sorry to bring up a topic that's ancient history, BUT

Looks like we'll miss out. If we were in for him in the first place... Why he'd chose to go to Barca or Chelsea, where he can't realistically expect to get first team football for over a decade, when he could come here and potentially win a place by the end of the season, is beyond me.

Again, it's been said before, and I never really believed it, but I am slowly beginning to come round to those who believe that Chelsea really DO bid for people just because their rivals want them...
