Another game we usually struggle with. Personally would start Wilshere for Xhaka but that won't happen. It'll be the same team as last week.

It's an early kick off and on BT so don't get your hopes up.

Shane Long against Koscielny? Should be fun.

Wilshere wont start, not having played 90 mins on Thur. Would be good to have him on later though.

I wouldn't be surprised if we were to revert back to the 4-2-3-1 for this game if Mustafi isn't back (which it sounds like he isn't).

Mustafi has been ruled out. Southampton aren't really a counter-attacking side so I'd like to see us go with a back four, our attack looks much better.

at this stage i'm thinking whether Xhaka isn't best suited for a CB role..

    that or the bench.

    ----------------Cech
    Bellerin - Holding - Kos - Kolasinac
    ---- Ramsey - Xhaka - Wilshere
    ------Özil - Lacazette - Alexis

    Time to turbocharge this thing.

If we were to knock three at the back on the head I'd like to see something like this. Maybe not enough defensively in that midfield but for the likes of S'ton we'd be okay.

Bring Per in for Mustafi. Keep the same team and same system Arséne. Don't be tempted to change ffs. Go with the odds.

xG of 4.5 with our golden triangle up front will pay dividends. Southampton can't be as lucky as United. 33 shots pinballing around in the box . . not one lucky deflection. They have their first shot straight at a defender and it goes through two sets of legs. SMH

Yeah not sure that changing to a back 4 is the answer, 3-4-3 has served us so well, Per for Mustafi is pretty much a straight swap too. Besides Nacho-Kos in a pairing would make me very nervous especially given how adventurous our full-backs are and the fact that our midfield doesn't really have a specialist in protecting the back 4.

Very nice lineup, would love to see this team. The 3 man midfield including Wilshere will help shore up the midfield, while also adding creativity and a goal threat as far as Ramsey and Wilshere are concerned. Defensively not as strong with the introduction of Holding (at least it's no Monreal as a CB) but if we dominate the midfield and are on the front foot, that won't be a problem.

Don't know about Holding, and no Nacho, is he injured?

Exactly. If we're continuing with Xhaka, Ramsey, we need 3 at the back.

Can't see Wenger changing anything tbf. He's seen the numbers in our last game.

Any formation we put out isn't "enough" defensively. I say we concentrate on what our strength is instead of pretending like we are a solid team on defence.

Switch to a back four and let Alexis, Özil, Lacazette and Ramsey run riot. The United game showed we will blow most teams off the park with that set up.

I hear you but at the end of the day you don't achieve anything without a half decent defence at least.

Defending isn't just the quality of defenders you have, as I'm sure you'll know. If we were to play a midfield three I'd like us to press the opposition high up- much like we did against Spuds.

But yeah, I have zero worries about our attack. The sheer quality is there for all to see. Daft errors like the ones we made against Yanited need to be irradiated. I'm still annoyed we lost tbh. We ****ing pummelled them.

Yeah agree - wasn't advocating we completely forget about defence however what ever line up, formation we put out there our defence (not just individually but as a collective as well) isn't going to be solid and we're going to continue to give up big chances.

I'd rather we focus on putting more past the opposition than they put past us.

We were actually playing a 4-2-3-1 after Mustafi went off and we dominated the game, so if Wenger goes by the Man Utd game's numbers, that's a reason to switch it back.

I'm not saying Wenger should or shouldn't do it, just what his reasoning might be.

Doesn't look like I'll be to get home tomorrow in time for the match, if I'm lucky I'll be able to stream the first half, and catch the 2nd live at home.
