Squad Analysis 2020/21

Saka, Martinelli, Tierney, Partey and Gabriel are the only players I'd keep if I was given a chance to do a complete overhaul of the squad. That means 84% of the squad is basically between bang average and deadwood. Pretty depressing situation.
You wouldn’t keep Leno?
Also some players are good enough back ups.

It looks bad because there are too many players who can't pass the ball: Bellerin, Tierney, Holding, Ceballos, Saka, Auba, Laca. That's half of the squad already, and while all of them have some other talents that are useful, there's just no way any manager will get fluency out of this squad.

This squad looks like Frankenstein, constant patching with no clear vision or plan of what our club wants to build here.
You really think Ceballos is a poor passer?

I would put him near the top of the team for passing.
Killer long ball. Accurate passing stats. Makes key defence splitting passes at a respectable rate. So not sure what you mean.

This is a fanbase who largely turned up their noses at the idea of Coutinho - even on loan. Yes, we've been great creatively this season.

I bet the same fans would still find reasons why Coutinho would be a bad signing never mind and Isco or Lemar.

I'd love a mobile playmaker in our midfield, who can link midfield and attack. ESR might be the guy in the future, but my priority in January would to get a creator in.

Willian, Özil and Pepe are creative, but one looks in semi retirement, 1 is a serial tweeter and not registered and things aren't working for our record signing.

People are against expensive stop gaps. Half our squad is littered with them or expensive dead weights.

By the end of next transfer window we need:

-Xhaka, Kolasinac, Lacazette sold
-Luiz, Sokratis, Mustafa gone
-Bellerin may leave

Leno
Bellerin New CB Gabriel Tierney
Partey New CM
Pepe New AM Saka
Auba
Alternatively:

Leno
Bellerin New CB Gabriel Tierney
Partey
New CM - Saka
Pepe -------------------Winger
Auba

Perhaps Saliba can be that CB? We need three players at CM, AM/Winger and CB as good as Gabriel/Partey. We need to get a Lacs replacement/ heir to Auba.

A big big January/summer needed. To get back to top 4

To get big players to improve the team we need to finish in EL places or win EL. Without that we arent signing top players who are noticeably better than what we have. We will be taking punts hoping. Which isnt ideal.

People say we shouldnt worry about where we finish this year and to trust the process. But the process cannot develop without bringing something to the table first.

No top player around 22-25 is coming to a team who finished 10th in the league. Your getting one of two players. Ones just interested in money because we are willing to overpay their salary to make them come here or two, players who have no interest from other clubs. Like your Mustafis and Xhakas.

Couldn't we overpay (salary wise) for top players to come here?

Yes but that's a dangerous path as has been shown before. If the only reason players are coming to Arsenal is because your willing to pay them 50% more what does that say about the player? And is that the type of player who you would want in the trenches with you when your losing matches? I dont think that's the type of characters we need.

If we are talking Aouar. Say Juve/Bayern or that type of club is offering him 150k a week. What would we have to offer him to sway him. 200? 220k? And that a player who has it all to prove and could easily be a big flop that your never getting rid of because of wages. We have been burnt before like this. Bad idea.

Its not a good position we find ourselves in. Need to get 90% of new signings right and them to work the season they're signed if we want to build up momentum and get somewhere

That's why I prefer trying to look from within the league but that's difficult. And there are no guarantees that it will work. You dont get long in football to turn it around and when you drop like we have you soon start to become irrelevant.

Players arent thinking about what we won 20 years ago. They are thinking about the here and now. I cant actually believe we are in the position we are in. Even a win today only brings us up to about 10th or 11th.

You cannot have the start we have had and get top 6. It's been a joke and the more I think about it the angrier I am.

This months manager of the month on the PL website is between Lampard, Ole, Moyes and Mourinho. Yet fans say we have the best manager. Imagine United or Sp**s were in our position. We would be laughing our heads off.

Out: Auba, Laca, Özil, Nketiah, Willock, Niles...

Loan out: ESR, Nelson, Balogun, Azeez

In: technical/skillful/elite passer

Give chance to U23 players who actually deserves to, instead of Nketiah/Willock. John Jules/Matt Smith or even Cottrell/Cirjan/Moller/Lewis/Salah/Coyle...(The U18 are even more skillful/technical but they need more time to develop.)

Start to play like 07/08 Arsenal or 09/10 Barcelona, pass the ball into the net. Ball over the ground is forbidden.

Agree about the state of us but it can all be turned around. Not saying it will be but a win puts us on same points as 7th with 27 games to go...

Who knows if Mourinho will have his usual implosion with Sp**s. Chelsea and Man U are better than us but aren't great. Man U especially won't keep staging comebacks for ever.

But we need to improve quickly

Yeah but if United are sitting 4th in January and still in the CL it makes it so much easier for them to go and sign another one or two top players to get them over the line.

Partey as a holding midfielder is such a waste. We need a 'creative player'.

He is THE creative player. What we need is a goal scoring 8. And someone to protect the back door to allow Partey to move up the pitch. We also need a CF who can get on the end of crosses and drop in.

Aubameyang Jovic Pepe/Saka
-------Szoboszlai
---------Bissouma Partey
Tierney Gabriel Stones Bellerin
------Leno

Loan Jovic in January, but Bissouma and Szoboszlai for the combined fee of Aouar and leave Stones till the summer.

That would allow Arteta to play closer to how he wants to.

Prime Milan, Barcelona, Bayern, Madrid, United.....07-08 Arsenal....they don’t have a goal scoring 8. We need more Aouar. We need our Hleb/Nasri/Fabregas/Cazorla. More creative players, more technical players.

Our squad lacks quality. Coutinho is a year older than Partey. Is Partey a stop gap? No he's high quality that improves our team.

Coutinho and Isco bring us up a level. Possibly two seeing as we are 14th

So looking forward we need to build the team around these players:

Gabriel
Tierney
Partey
Pepe
Auba (we need his replacement this summer)

We need new players for all the other places on the pitch.

If it was Coutinho on a loan, no thanks. On a permanent deal? Would've been a lot more open to it if the numbers weren't stupid.

The only links all summer were loan options from what I remember.

The club is now in serious decline, and it’s becoming more rapid than before.

We need to cut our losses and ship Arteta, Edu and then the Kroenke’s on. We will get relegated in the coming years if not this one.

Bring in proper experts and spend money now. It’s not too late.
