Squad Analysis 2025/26

In the last game they showed our injured players lurking in the shadows Havertz, Jesus, Hincapié. On the bench we had Saka, Rice, Eze, Timber, Cala The starting 11 was still very strong.

Never seen a squad like this in all my many years of supporting the club. This is surely only sustainable for one season until players start bleating.

Yeah, I think a squad this strong will only be possible for 25/26.

You could make a case that the club bring in no new significant players in the next window, whilst moving on Gabriel Jesus and Trossard.

We’d still then have two players for every position.

squad should be stronger next year in my opinion as you have the opportunity to shed a number of players who don’t really contribute much and focus on a proper lw addition. Maybe some defenders lose patience but I have faith we can continue to replace them with quality

Pretty sure this is Trossard's last season as an Arsenal player. Martinelli is an obstacle though. If he isn't moved on I cannot really see us buying another wide player. I'd love for Semenyo to get picked up. Equally as good on both wings and can play ST aswell if needed. Only issue with him is AFCON.

Guess it’s time to eat down on those words 😂
He is not world class, this title is given out too easily. He is a notch below, Max Dowman is a more special talent if he fulfils it. Saka is obviously a great player though.

non of them are world class and have proved nothing so far. Saka is nowhere near close to the top wingers in the world - he has plateaud.
Defensive record aside, nothing has been proven yet. Over the course of the season if we carry on with these stats then yes some of those players (mainly in the defensive area) could be considered world class or at the very least have a one off world class season. I have to set the standards high here.

We only scored 1 goal from several set piece chances.
I want us to improve the percentage
That Merino chance was I thought we could and should have scored, next time, don't miss Mikel

4 things become clear.
- The drop off quality from Zubi and Rice to Nørgaard and Merino in the midfield is huge
- Eze is not a LW and should be playing as a 10
- MLS as a LB is a dead end
- Our striker needs to drop deep for us to play better football. He needs to be involved in the build-up making the 3 attackers run at full speed to the opposition.

I’d love to know how injuries work in regards to freshness. Like if someone gets injured ie Saka does that technically mean he has had rest? Like an extended pre season break?

Is Gabi being out for 4-6 weeks giving him a mid season break?

Should these players be fresher than players who have stayed fit and played more minutes?

Yeah, any time spent off their joints and ligaments would help their freshness. Not the ideal way to get them rest but theoretically it should benefit them later on in the season.

Saw this article in the Athletic about the top 100 players for the upcoming WC, it's not really the top 100 players overall since it weights stuff like national team performance, market value or historical perfomance into account but it's still curious that we don't have any player in the top 15 (Madrid, Barca and City have 3 each, Bayern 2) and just 4 players in the top 50 (Saka 16, Rice 18, Gabriel 23, Saliba 41) and I can't really argue that hard against it. I thnk it shows 2 things:
  • On the positive side it's pretty impressive that we are in contention for best team in the world without any "outstanding" individuals, if we finally win major trophies this season that's a very respectable achievement.
  • On the other hand we probably need to buy or develop that superstar player, I reckon Rice and Saka move into the top 10 eventually if we start winning things but they feel different in kind to the likes of Mbappe/Vini/Yamal/Halaand/Dembele. I feel if we hypotetically stole even just one of those 5 players we suddenly go from our ceiling being 60/40 favorites against everyone in a UCL KO tie to becoming clear favorites for everything.
Obviously getting one of those is unrealistic so I hope the club and our scouts are being proactive in trying to make it happen, right now our only shot is Dowman/Nwaneri or Saka leveling up another aspect of his game out of nowhere again (wouldn't rule it out tbh  )
