We have the 2nd most open play goals in 2024 - a much larger sample size.

Yes but our % of set piece goals is only based on season 24/25 is it not?
Yeah but that’s the second highest reliance on set pieces in that entire period. That’s pretty shocking for the situation we’re in.

His whole view on attacking football is shocking tbh. Remember that interview in a game we drew and had bunch of aimless crosses he said if we put that many balls in we will score. That’s when I realised his whole approach is about numbers, the more balls you throw in the more likely it’s for something to fall to you

The sample size is small though, we have a much larger one showing our open play prowess.

My position is that we're not as reliant on set pieces as that table makes it out but we're also not as good scoring open play goals as the Orbinho stat shows.

I came to the same conclusion from the exact same things.

The one thing I will say is I believe it is symptomatic of modern football rather than Arteta specifically though. Kind of an arm's race to juke as many things as possible in your favour.

Liverpool are similar (under Klopp) but they have Salah to convert the silly/improbable chances.

Ok, tell the truth now 😂
It doesn't look like Stoke's badge
Nvm, I thought the tweet I found it on said Sp**s but it was referring to something else.

It was Cardiff City.

LOL! Surely you know that Sp**s are crap at both taking and defending set pieces. Ange doesn't practise them. I thought that was the joke 🤣

Funny thing is Salah hasn’t really been out scoring his xG or npxG most seasons at Liverpool.

The variance is too high with our attack - we can absolutely kill it like after Dubai last yr where our attacking stats would have been well above every team but periods during the first half of this season and last season where we are mid table at best. Thats why everyone can recall attacking stats to fit their agenda - there is very clear hot and cold periods.
