We need to improve our ball retention in our own half and stop with the stupid turnovers in dangerous areas of the pitch. There are a few ways to improve defending without actually upgrading the personnel itself.

I was so scared when I saw the Vida thread locked..
Statsbomb did a good analysis of our problems in defence last season. Basically we pressed a lot in the opposition half, but we were amongst the worst, actually the 2nd worst only behind Stoke, at conceding shots shortly after a press.
Basically last season we pressed high up the pitch but once the opposition got around the press we conceded shots and goals very quickly. I'm not a coach so I don't know how to improve that, but let's hope Emery does.

This age thing is just stupid. People don't just capitulate at 30, ffs.
If you are going to compare is to Pool, the comparison begins from when Klopp joined. How long did they take to get their **** together? Look at their team pre Salah.
It makes sense that we have less players in that age range as we don't have the Champions League to really get those players in. However we also have more young players who are involved with the first team.
Torreira, Mavropanos, AMN, Holding, Bellerin, Guendouzi, Iwobi, Nelson and Nketiah.
Lb, lcb and a winger is what we need in the peak age and to be honest that isn't as much as what Pool had to do when you consider the attacking talent we have for the next 3 years.

Iwobi extended till 2023. Leno signed for us knowing that Cech will retire next year, unless he is terrible he will get a shot for #1.
Lict is backup to bellerin, could be replaced with younger in 1-2 season. Özil and Auba should be least of our worries. Ramsey looks like extending contract.
All others are replaceable. Left back and centre back will be priority next window.
Loaning out Chambers and not signing a CB is up there with only signing Cech in the summer of 2015. Awful decision.
