Takehiro Tomiyasu: Takehiro Today, Injured Tomorrow

I would never want to see him starting ahead of White, so what we’re really losing here is (a) injury cover, and (b) late match bench flexibility when we’re trying to hold onto a lead.

Never ideal losing a player but if White stays fit it’s hardly a huge loss either.

We need to go back in for Fresneda or whoever.

Move Tomi to back up CB and then there’s less expectation on him. Even if he gets injured you can play White as CB.

Yeah, that should be the plan alright. Both him and White offer kind of the same value at RB, albeit with diferent strengths anyway. Both are good have solid passing, with Benny being better at that and Tomiyasu being the better pure defender overall.

Would like someone with a bit more overlap in them in the squad make up.

He's better at CB anyways. For a short while when Gabriel was not having the best run of form, our strongest defense looked to be White-Saliba-Tomi-Zynchenko.

Really odd that his form fell off this hard. Probably carrying a knock all along + whatever happened to his head at WC - which in itself is a big worry because it's not like Japan were dreadful.

Need to get lucky with Ben White staying fit now yeah and then it isnt much of a loss. If he gets injured though, plan C looks to be Partey right back and that seems like a big loss for the midfield.

Following his substitution during last Thursday’s Europa League match, subsequent assessments have confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu sustained a significant injury to his right knee.

Tomi has had successful surgery in London on Tuesday and will be ruled out for the remainder of this season.

Everyone at the club will now be working hard with Tomi, so he can join pre-season training ahead of next season.

Incredible unlucky injury. That's tell you some injuries can happen at any moment even without being tackled.

Just unfortunate for Tomi come back stronger

Sad stuff man. Probably needs to be viewed more as CB cover than anything else going forward. Definitely need another understudy/competition for White at RB. Hopefully Tomi's recovery goes well, seems a good lad and deserves better than his rather rotten luck.

"Fun Fact": Tierney's season ending injury also happened in march last year. Only 22 days apart are the incidents.

He is arguing we been unlucky with injuries? He can’t be serious. Maybe he need to look at United, Chelsea or Liverpool. United are without their starting CBs for a while now and will be rest of the season

He is doing what he always do in May.

Yeah I expected excuses. But surely he knows we finished second and so clear because of how little injuries we had. And he signed a CB in January to beef up his squad and he is not using him. Together with his midfield signing in the summer who is another dead weight

Why would he need to look at the teams way below you in the table as an example of dealing with injuries?

You have been pretty unlucky with injuries. Not to an extreme level but the compounding effect of Tomiyasu + Saliba going down is the definition of unlucky.

Having to start your 4th choice CB for the most important games of the season is just objectively unlucky. That doesn't mean you couldn't have done better in terms of performances, but it is unlucky.

He hasn’t had to use his 4th like other teams. Just his 3rd choice

Also who cares what teams way below you in the table are doing. You were competing against a team that were worried Ake wasn't available against you lot and they had to play either Laporte or Walker ffs, that is the team you were competing against.

You had to play a guy who wouldn't get into the majority of PL teams while City's backups would start for most CL teams.
