The case for the defence

This probably won't get to many replyies cos it has nothing to do with PV4 but waht the hell. If any other team in the world went unbeaten for a season and had the meanest defence in their league, their fans would proclaim their back line a fortress. But not Arsenal fans. I keep seeing threads like 'If we lose Campbell and Toure for six months we're screwed'. Of corse we'd be screwed, if you remove the the first choice centre back partnership from any team they would be screwed. Look at our options

Right Back

Trabelsi
Lauren
Hoyte

Left Back

Cole
Clichy
Garry

Centre Back

Campbell
Toure
Cygan
Senderos
Trabelsi
Hoyte
Garry
Gilberto

What more do you want?

People say that Senderos and Cygan are not top class. Of course their not. They're back-up. If they were top class, they'd be playing.
This isnt Championship Manager. You can't sign John Terry and give him 10 starts a season. Two top class players in every position doesn't work. Ask Claudio Ranieri.

yeah, the defence is looking very strong. the only two questions are how the trabelsi vs lauren situation will work out and is senderos as good a stand in as is needed...

Don't forget Toure at Right Back.

I like him as a Centre Back, but he has certainly proved adequate in the RB role as well.

Look wat happened when Rio got his suspension. Man U fell apart. Of course someone is better than others. We got Campbell, theyve got Rio. U cant have a leader like that on the bench, no team has...

Exactly, and the flexibility of our defensive line up just means we're better equipped to cope with injuries / international call ups etc. No team can hope to absolutely cover the loss of their first team defence.

Exactly, and the flexibility of our defensive line up

Flexibility is one of the marks of Wengerball which is modern total football,Cole, Toure, Gilberto, lauren, can all play defensive/midfield
