No, countries bid for it like every other tournament. For 2029 the bids are USA, Spain/Portugal/Morocco and Australia/New Zealand.
They like money at FIFA.

I feel having the World Cup host host it would make sense though since some of them actually have to build stadiums specifically for the WC and that way they can be used more effectively.

This is a strange competition, its like replaying the Champions League after the season has finished but with the inclusion of clubs who would struggle in the Europa Conference.

It's great that a little light is shone upon some of the lesser clubs who never get to play the giants, but what did everyone expect here? The big clubs will eventually power through this and into the latter stages.

You will get embarrassments like the 10-0 result along the way.

I dont know how you improve on this nonsense either, if you want to make it a top tier competition you cant have the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool etc sitting out who have just won their domestic leagues, but then if you include them all, you just have a repeat/imitation sub-par Champions League which everyone has just seen the conclusion of.

The coefficient thing doesnt seem to work well for this type of thing either as you got the likes of current Chelsea instead of current Liverpool which is just strange. I wonder if it would be better just to have every league winner in a competition, but then they don't want certain clubs missing out ie Real Madrid..

The entire thing is a bit of a mess, it's a very unnecessary competition at an awful time of the year.

It will keep getting played in countries that won't support it and is only there for the money.

We all know why its in the U.S of A, but this competition would have had a better chance if they stuck it in Europe or South America where football is hot, that would have given it a bit of a chance to start as a well received competition.

Everything about this competition just screams money money money, I can see why so many people are turned off by it, it's just so out of touch with what fans want.

Well there's my rant, I have no idea why I even posted this, I haven't seen a game, don't plan to and forget it is even on most days.. and I say all that but still have this slight disgust that this competition even exists, as above it is just a typical thing for such an out of touch organisation to do in 2025.

Absolute d!ckheads..

Lol no. Prize money is massive for PSR and builds a global fanbase like no other competitions, especially in America.

We need to qualify for this
I don't care, it's still a load of bollocks and stands for everything bad about modern football.

With this **** happening every four years, by the time we qualify the prize money will probably have gotten reduced to a pittance.

From a fans perspective these club world cups will never catch on.

It's European sides and a couple of South American ones. The rest are just pointless filler from a competitiveness stand point.

I saw Bayern win 10-0 and thh it should have been nearer 20.

FIFA's job is to promote football on a global stage. There is no point to have the tournament held in South America because it is already maxed out or in Africa because it is not profitable. USA is still an untapped market. The top football players in Europe earns peanuts compared to the top basketball or baseball players in USA.

If Australia wins the bid for next one it will be huge, absolutely packed stadiums. 100,000 plus at the MCG there are so many PL fans here, but yeah not sure about Al-Hilal vs Palmeiras

I kind of like it. Interesting to see the match up between teams from all over the world. Obviously some of them are going to be so far off the level required to compete that they get destroyed but with the prize money and clubs taking it seriously it’s a proper competition. At the very minimum there is competitive football to watch in the off season.

The Brazilian games are one I’m less worried about because they have a large diaspora which is all crazy about football.

Haven't watched any of it but did read Redondo's son plays for Inter Miami which is about the most interesting thing I can come with. Saying that if we were in it no doubt I'd be glued to it and desperate to win it.

That is because Auckland City (not Auckland FC) is a semi pro team. All their players have their own jobs and football is leisure for them. For e.g. their goalkeeper is actually a forklifter, their defender and captain is a delivery man for Coca Cola. Their striker exhausted all his annual leave to play this tournament, which will be painful for him given that he is a construction worker and his job is tiring AF.

There's no professional clubs in Oceania which is why its unfortunate that FIFA needs to include all continents. If Australia was still in Oceania then that scoreline would never happen, because there are professional clubs in the A-League

Why is Auckland City in this competition? I'm genuinely confused; is it because the A-League is considered "Asia"?

Yep, A-League counts as Asia and plays in the Asian Champions League.

For Auckland City, they are the Oceania Champions League champion. For the past 4 consecutive years too. There are literally no other serious clubs in the continent, the rest are from very small islands that barely counts as a country (Tahiti, New Caldonean, Papa New Guinea, Solomon Island etc)

Australia left Oceania for Asia, so the only decent club from Oceania now comes from New Zealand League and they are only semi-pro. The 2 best professional clubs from New Zealand (Auckland FC and Welllington Phoenix) joined Australia's league so doesn't qualify for this tournament for Oceania.

It's the same for World Cup. Only New Zealand qualifies every edition, and they win a lot of matches by double digits.

Part of that is promoting a new tournament, giving it the best opportunity to be successful.

Having your fancy shiny new tournament being played in empty stadiums is counter productive. Yes, eventually I imagine the fans will turn out when the big teams meet eachother further down the line, but it looks weak right now.

In terms of being paid peanuts, doesnt Haaland get paid something like 500k a week after tax? Isn't all American sports salaries inclusive of tax when reported?

Isnt Steph Curry on something like £46million as the highest earner?

Baseball I have no idea about.

The only moment of possible happiness is the present. The past gives regrets. And future uncertainties. Man quickly realised this and created religion. It forgives him what he has done wrong in the past and tells him not to worry about the future, as you will go to paradise.
