Nygaard makes a really good save to keep us ahead. I really like Nygaard so far.

Chelsea get a deserved equaliser. We had defended well but they put together a really good sequence to score.

Just lost some of our attacking impetus so far, not putting together the moves quite as well. Edwards having a hard time getting into it and Salah-Eddine's brother Ismail is not really adding too much either. Might be a game for Gower and Annous to come on.

Waiting for the 2nd half now.

Robinson's had a hard time against George but other than that the backline have been solid. Heaven's played well and gotten into good form in the last few games. Monlouis is having his best game for a while aswell.

Salah-Eddine is our best player so far with Rosiak a close 2nd. Still need a bit more composure in the attack though, with Ismail Oulad M'Hand not quite getting into the game as much. Butler-Oyedeji has probably been the best attacker and scored a really nice finish. Kabia has been threatening but not delivering while Edwards has had very few touches. Nygaard has also been good overall and made a couple nice saves. Distribution been a bit hurried at times but he's comfy.

Sorry, was eating.

It's 2-1 Chelsea, and they're very good for the lead. Controlled the 2nd half. Salah inexplicably was replaced and we lost all our attacking threat, opting to play entirely on the counter but not getting the ball quickly enough to our attackers. Annous has come on but has barely had a touch along with the rest of the attack. It isn't a bad performance overall but the limitations in this current U21 squad are there for all to see. The defence is good and Butler-Oyedeji is pretty OP for this level at the moment but that's it.

The defence is really carrying this U21 team. Heaven has had an excellent game despite the scoreline. Nichols too.

I don't really like to rag on the youth teams really because they're just young players so it's not really their fault. The midfield for this team is very stale. Put Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri into this midfield and we win this game handily of course but the next cycle of promising midfielders and attackers are currently in the U18s and schoolboy ranks.

1-0 down. We have struggled to get a foothold in the game. Very scrappy from us at the moment.

We really are struggling to match their physicality bar in defence where Heaven and Monlouis have done reasonably well so far.

Sounds like team need a bit of a dressing down at half time. You either can play at this level or you can’t. Let’s see who can step up

Man of the moment butler oyedeji with a great run beating around 3 players before shooting straight at the keeper. That would have been a really good goal if it went in.

Yep. Colchester are 4th from bottom of the EFL L2 and as things stand, none of our players would get into their team I'm afraid to say...

HT 2-0 Colchester. No contest at the moment. At this rate these guys would struggle at EFL level. Let's see if if they have the character to turn this around.

Just seen the result. I was busy but had a look at the lineup and didn't think we were gonna do much if I'm being honest 😭

Think we're missing a little bit of chemistry and variance in the midfield area largely - I even think this is starting to become a growing issue in the U18 squad too. Might sound like an old fool here but a bit of power in the middle might not be a bad idea to try and recruit for or bring forward. We have that one kid from Eton, forgot his name (Zac something). It's not that the midfielders we have are bad at all to be fair, I just don't think a lot of them compliment each other as well as we'd like.

Was reading the reports and it seems that the defenders were losing the ball a lot aswell so that doesn't help matters. I do expect things to turn around a bit, but I have said a little while ago that this seems to be a bit of a transitional season for the U21s, while the current scholars take shape.
