You'll never get rid of Bobby. Creeps up every now and again to come show us all how crazy religion makes you. Bless him really. Probably scared a lot of good folks away from those soul sucking worship holes.
Best to put him on ignore.

You didn't like the one when Leicester won the league? That was totally elite imo. Deserving of a title win.

The defensive situation isn't as bad as the goals conceded stat would suggest. So many goals have come from unforced errors.

Our xGA difference is only -1,42, so it's pretty much in line with what we've conceded.
Just off the top of my head:
Cardiff- Xhaka gifts possession to them instead of playing it safe with the half about to end
Fulham- Monreal with a cheap giveaway in his own half leads to a goal
Crystal Palace- Mustafi dives in from behind and gives a pen
Liverpool- Holding instinctively sticks out a leg and deflects Leno's save into Milner's path
Wolves- Xhaka disasterclass
Sp**s- Leno howler + Son dive for the pen
United- Kolasinac lays it on a plate for Lingard
Southampton- Koscielny somehow misses the head on the 1st goal
Burnley- Torreira fails to clear his lines
Brighton- Lichsteiner heads the ball into the attacker's path when literally anywhere else would've been fine
Fulham- Guendouzi doesn't track a runner that was right in front of him and allows him a tap in
West Ham- Xhaka heads it straight to Nasri

But these are common features of our team. What makes you think it's going to change?

Besides teams are creating enough chances to score against us so that'll make up for it.

It's no guarantee, but new personnel might help. I don't know how much you rate Kolasinac but a LB is definitely needed, a new CB as well. Mustafi is just too rash.

Emery needs to work to improve this, but we've gifted so many goals to the opposition as well. That can't be ignored when you evaluate the team.

There common errors for any team and a large part comes down to coaching. If you want your team to be possession based and pick players who are good in this area then you have to do a better job of keeping the ball and give the opposition less chances to get into the final third. Inviting pressure leads to a lot of these errors as the players are programmed to keep the ball at all cost and rather than clearing the danger and conceding a corner they will try and play out, whereas a defensive team who are happy to invite pressure will just clear their lines and reset.

Also, Emery's mismanagement of Xhaka in the last month has more of a problem than anything with Özil. Being forced to play LB and then CB drained him of his confidence, after he'd started the first few months of the season strongly. Elneny could've played CB if Emery didn't want to use a youngster, instead he made the defence and midfield weaker instead of just one part of the team.

This big time. It's funny how many people refer to "individual mistakes" like they occur out of context of play. Defensive disorganization, a play style that doesn't fit the players or one the manager cannot get across properly, all these things mount pressure on individuals and then mistakes happen. Because someone is not in position, because someone didn't track, because someone didn't do x or y or z - of course it was player X that lost the ball or did whatever. But these are all down to systemic organizational issues which disband unity and formation, thus invite pressure on individuals and ultimately increase the chances of "individual" mistakes happening. So in the end, these mistakes are far less individual than they seem as they are mostly down to overarching tactical and systemic issues.

This is actually easy to see if you watch a lot of football. The same personnel will behave completely different in the span of weeks when suddenly given the confidence of working in a solid defensive construct. Last season, the VfB Stuttgart defenders were making the most comical so called individual mistakes you could imagine, far worse than here, then: the manager changed and the exact same personnel got a more basic play style and organization and suddenly they were not just overall better at the back, but the so called individual mistakes vanished completely. Tactically astute and well coached teams make far less individual mistakes, that's valid for Barcelona just as for Bournemouth, and independently of player quality, which points to individual mistakes actually not being that individual.

All these don't so much point to a lack of individual quality or an individual mistake like stumbling over your own feet or the ball or slipping, but clearly to too much individualization of defensive pressure. The players are not kept together as a unit. They don't feel comfortable and confident, they loose their heads and off goes the fuse - whether it be tackling, positioning, tracking, clearing balls, etc.

Not Emery's Old Pal
Emery shouldn't be given more than a season to prove his mettle.

Depending on the team form as the season goes on this opinion can either belong here or belong in a common opinion thread.
