It's probably a bit of both, tbh...Xhaka is the Giroud of midfielders, both good players, but both a significant drop from our main strikers/midfielders that they had to follow.

If you look at the level of players we have had in midfield before Granit (Vieira/Fabregas/etc) you can see why many view a player like Xhaka to not be good enough.

Plus his signing was the point when the club really started to fall, as has been said...a lot of fans can link bad memories with Xhaka, plus he has also made a ton of errors here.

It's best for both if we part ways, he will do much better in a league that suits him anyway.
Xhaka was years after Vieira or Fabregas lol he came after the likes of Arteta. You would be better off saying Santi Cazorla.

Özil at 10 And Emery Out
The idea that you need goals from midfield and players who are "goal scoring midfielders" are two of the most overrated things in English football.

I feel we should have kept Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain. Felt Ramsey had more to offer. The Ox seemed to be played in a position that did not play to his strength.
Neither of them have done f all at the clubs we sold them to. Ramsey is a rotational player at best with all Juve fans wanting to sell him and Ox is just at Liverpool for vibes all he does is sit on the bench or be injured.

Data websites like fbref or whoscored should not be readily accessible to casuals, because too often data gets misinterpreted. There are several caveats that get don’t get mentioned.

I would try and go for a more British core for a Team. Tierney, Holding, Chambers, Willock, Saka, Smith-Rowe. With the addition of Ben White? could be a good nucleus. Experience of Aubameyang and Lacazette up front. With no European Competition distraction, maybe go for one of the Domestic Cups, and top 6 league finish?

Arsenal is already a TOP6 level of team, but without Europe and with new players at least 70 points should be the bar.
