Jfc you people actually don’t know how to google “Barcelona wages” do you? This is absolutely wild hahahaha.

Ok I’ll be nice and help you with the link I guess.

There you go! Now go read that and keep telling me we’ll sign de Jong this summer. See you in September.

Deluded

That's bollocks though. His contract was leaked. €19m a year base, €2m performance bonus and €4m loyalty bonus, so £410k per week.

I feel like the one being trolled really.

If you still can’t figure out why this transfer is never happening then ping me in September and I’ll try to explain to you again why it didn’t happen. Him being on 720k should be enough for you to understand really but here we are.

Did I at any point ask how likely the transfer was? No?

Didn’t think so.

Again you really should learn to read.

If that is true, I still can't get totally behind these super transfers. It hasn't been the Arsenal way anyway. Osimhen likely wants to double his wages so the assumption is that he might want 400k per week also as a striker. And PSG might pay it after Mbappe leaves.

Let's say Arsenal buys Osimhen and FDJ. That's like 800k pounds per week, which over a 5-year period means 208 million pounds. Not sure how much Barcelona would want for FDJ with 2 years left, but it has to be at least Rice money, so 105 million pounds. Possibly more. Osimhen at least the same amount. So that's like 420 million pounds overall spend at minimum.

When you compare to my wishlist/thinking (you can find the sums in that post), you can get Toney, Williams, Zubimendi, Frimpong and Diomande for almost similar overall spend. I counted minimum ~445 million pounds for these players overall. That's 25 million difference, but De Jong and even Osimhen might cost a bit more. These all are estimations, and some might be a bit wrong, but not much imo.

Then when you take into account that Osimhen would come to the toughest league in the world (he has the talent to perform instantly, but it's a risk always) and might not stay fit as he has got injured even in Italy. While on the other hand Toney is known durable player in EPL, and is EPL proven. Also when you have 5 players vs. only 2 players, the possibility of those 2 players getting injured is much higher, making the investment more riskier, which can ruin a season once again.

It's just so clear to me that the problem in these past two seasons has been injuries and lack of proper depth. Even next year there will still be injury-prone players like Zinchenko, Tomiyasu, Vieira and Jesus. Timber coming back from the worst injury of his career, which is another question mark. Arsenal this season has a 25 player squad, and these injury-prone players mean that it has to be a big squad again, at least 24 players I think.

But yeah, I would prefer almost getting all of Toney, Williams, Zubimendi, Diomande and Frimpong vs. Osimhen and FDJ, with wages included. Only Frimpong's wages would make it more expensive, but I doubt he is on high wages, I counted him as 100k euros per week close to Tierney's wages. But that's just me. If buying Šeško with his fee & wages, it would be even cheaper than Toney. Havertz would then play false 9 as the main man, and Šeško would gradually get tested how he performs, with Jesus (and Trossard) chipping in.

He is simply not worth the money he earns. It’s gonna be crazy transfer fee and wages for a guy who is pretty on the ball, but ineffective

One can save like 100 million pounds overall if one goes for 1,5 years younger Zubimendi, rather than FDJ.

That's humongous money, and I can't see it happening, and I don't like it. He is not double the player that Zubimendi is, and in 1,5 years Zubimendi will become very likely closer in level.

These are the transfers United makes, not Arsenal. It's not shrewd.

More importantly he doesn't work aswell. He is too lightweight to play the 6 role. And for an 8 don't think he is mobile enough. Could work in a double pivot with flying wingers but we don't do that. Currently Luiz would be my pick for our LCM role. (Paqueta next but has other issues)

I can read perfectly fine and you stated that we should be able to afford these sort of transfers. I’ve repeatedly told you that we can’t and why it won’t happen. Won’t entertain this any longer but jfc your ignorance is unbelievable. You’re the one who badly need to learn to read. And that includes your own writing.

This was an interesting discussion from you guys. I have had similar experience here as you, where one gets into weird long arguments about quite simple matters. Many times with the person who you talk to now, even if I still respect him quite much.

I agree that FDJ is a pipedream even if he would be available.

I think it's blatantly obvious that Arsenal paying like 210 million overall for one player won't happen. Osimhen might be that kind of player, but I still doubt it.

I counted it above, but Zubimendi would cost like 100 million pounds over his contract plus fee, and FDJ double that. The management knows how much you can get for 100 million pounds to improve the overall squad, and they have tracked Zubimendi for a long time.

Of course Arsenal can now afford it, but they won't do it. It's not wise, nor what Arsenal has almost ever done. They did it for Rice, but his wages were not astronomical like FDJ's.

Yep not saying he would flop in the PL. But would never be standout player

I have absolutely no problem with @goons or anyone responding to my question of “how much” with say £200mil and we can’t afford it.

What I cannot stand is a patronising middle aged doofus who comes on to a forum to act big with strangers. It’s different when it’s guys who have been here for a minute and have chemistry / reps / whatever, not some random. It’s just poor etiquette but manners aren’t for everyone anyway maybe I ask for too much from society.

Don’t have any issues with you anyways @drippin , your posts have been top bins since you’ve been back.

Also fwiw I’ve never thought fdj was realistic. I literally just wanted to get a feel for how much he’d cost… because, and again reading comprehension is important here… I feel like we should be able to afford elite players. Not that we can or will. But should.

Yeah, well you were kinda right that Arsenal can afford it, like I said there. So you were both right in my view, just that it was not worth the arguing. But we are all part of these sometimes.

Thanks man, I still respect you a lot even with our history. You're a great poster even with some things I disagree with. People should be allowed to disagree with each other.

It's something that is very worrying in today's world. That you can't even discuss things without calling each other names and stop talking to each other and such sillyness. It's like most people are children.

Arsenal Quotes

Right from his very first match, when Patrick Vieira was as yet unknown to the English public, he showed just how talented he was. No one disputed his ability, and he gave me the credibility and the hold over the club that I needed to take it in the direction I wanted. He and Emmanuel Petit became a duo that would remain forever etched in the memories of Arsenal fans.
