Opinions on Kephren Thuram for that 6/8 hybrid?

Unless we are signing Bruno Guimaraes or Joao Neves, I'm afraid the left 8’s that everyone has been crying out for will be disappointing. Watching the Euros made me realise that the stars of the show have been all-phase midfielders, e.g., Vitinha, Gundogan, Fabian Ruiz etc. Fortunately, we have one of the best right 8s in the business in Ødegaard, whom I believe will develop into a deep-lying playmaker ala Sir Luka Modric. So the left 8 becomes a left 10. A player that has:
1) elite chance creation
2) elite ball-striking
3) powerful ball carrier
4) can drift out wide to the left
5) goal threat
6) good dribbled through the middle
7) can play on the half-turn

I believe Xavi Simons ticks every box, but the TNAT update suggests we're after Eze, which is still a good option. I said earlier we needed the next KdB rather than the Xhaka replacement. Then we'll sign a traditional overlapping left-back, a winger to rotate with Saka and Martinelli and a bench 6/8 to flex in and with Rice depending on the game state.

Another potential shape adjustment we may make next season. This one closer to Liverpool 19/20 where you build a base for your attackers to constantly pressurise the opposition goal.

A base attacking shape of 4-6 here. With a rest defense of Rice-Onana-Gabriel-Saliba enough to cover our 6 in attack.

You're on my wavelength. I had higher hopes for the market going into this window but the midfield options I'm seeing are very somehow. I think we're much better off signing an 10/8 than a 6/8. Simons, Eze or Doue for me. Then bring in Onana. Having both Onana and Rice gives us incredible depth. The DLP talk is a bit overblown, as none of them are that good nor are they particularly that attainable.

Everyone asks about Tchoua / Camavinga from Madrid but they’ll get plenty of game time.

Gulan with Bellingham ahead of him though I don’t see him getting much game time … and honestly he is so so good. I think @2Smokeyy rates him but I’m keen to know your thoughts.

It's annoying dealing with West Ham, but the more I think about it, Kudus is a better option than many wingers, he has that explosive style that cuts teams open and doesn't lose the ball much.

Of course I’d take Arda here but the same applies to Brahim Diaz who I rate very highly. Not sure what Real Madrid are trying to build over there but they’re just stockpiling on these talents, surely this isn’t sustainable by keeping them all happy.

I think Brahim Diaz is the player profile @db10_therza has constantly referenced as what we need with his Barella suggestion. Brahim solves the midfield conundrum we're facing with the left 8 and he can fill in for Ødegaard in case of injury considering he's ambidextrous.

The way he rides challenges and his pace on the dribble is Messi esque, perhaps due to his low center of gravity. And he's got an eye for goal.

If he's available he should be a no brainer purchase. Though I doubt Real Madrid will be willing to sell him just yet.

I agree, and I think that guy will be Tchouameni.

Camavinga is proving that he is the better 6, which kind of makes him redundant.

I can see a big PL move on the horizon for him.

Depends on how they play and how they view players. But say they play similar to how they ended the season (or maybe just CL?) - a 442 diamond with Bellingham as the 10.

With Kroos gone and given who they have they might look at Bellingham as an 8 and then you have

Tchouameni - 6/8
Camavinga - 6/8
Valverde - 8
Ceballos - 8
Bellingham - 8(/10)
Modric - 8/10
Guler - 10
Diaz - 10

Modric won’t play a lot and he’ll be fine with that. He’s more there to mentor players, imo. Ceballos is their ESR/Nelson and won’t have many minutes at all (if he stays). Guler is young and will be happy as long as he gets decent minutes.

In a 433 you have the first 6 as your midfield options, Diaz perhaps as an advanced 8 as well. Then you have Vini and Rodrygo as your wingers with Mbappe at CF. Diaz, Guler and Joselu(?) as the backup options.

Numbers wise it makes sense and I don’t think wages is an issue. Leaves if RM are able to keep everyone happy and that’s possible imo. Don’t think anyone is so unhappy atm they actively want out.

I don’t think they willingly sell any of their midfielders. Diaz or Rodrygo at a push but the latter already said quite clearly he’s staying.

To all the people suggesting we're better off signing a 10/8 than a 8/6 - I have a serious question: what is your plan for if Rice gets injured? Or when we need to rotate him in a cup game?

Play Jorginho or Partey there? I shouldn't have to point out why those are both non-options - one isn't a ball winner and the other is always injured.

I don't think our fanbase is acknowledging just how absolutely ****ed we are if Rice isn't available - something that is likely to happen given the insane amount of minutes he's played with both us and England.

This is why for me, the #1 most important profile to bring in is a physical, ball winning 6. At least if Martin gets injured we have Vieira, ESR, Kai, and Zinny, who granted aren't anywhere near his level as midfielders, but at least the options are there. But if Rice gets injured there are no options, and we are ****ed.

The exact same thing applies when Ødegaard is injured… and I swear to God if anyone says Vieira…

Edit: just read the rest of your post. All those “options” of yours to fill in for Ødegaard. Please. Be serious. This is awful posting.

We need to bring in two midfielders to cover for either Rice or Ødegaard being injured - the question is which of the two would you spend the big money on.

AMs just cost much more in general, so it’s easier to get a reasonable DM on the cheap. Cheap AM’s are rubbish though and it would seriously bring our level down.

So I’d go big on the 8/10
