They are called Referees and they are TERRIBLE

Do you think refs consciously treat Arsenal differently than other teams?

@Oxeki is Michael Oliver corrupt or incompetent?
How do you want me to know?

Do I think he's competent? No

Does he have a bias against us? Yes.

It's not a new thing. Refs have been ****ing us since the Wenger days. Fans didn't care and told wenger to get on with it.

So why is it such a big deal now?

If we have a world class team like Arteta fans say, surely we could be beating the the likes of Bournemouth and Brighton without ref help.

Its a big deal as we would’ve won the league last season and thjs season would be a lot closer.

How?

What decision stopped us from winning the league last season?

Off the top of my head bad officiating robbed Liverpool of 6 points last season.

I'm sorry but anyone who thinks that in thread called

They are called Referees and they are TERRIBLE

people shouldn't post about referees is an idiot.

If you don't see that referees cost Arsenal this season about 4 points, nobody can help you.
People should post about ref and say what they like but referees are not the reason we didn't win the league. I'm pretty sure if I go back and look, I could come up with some ref decision somewhere that could have helped Liverpool win the league last season. But at the end of the day, it's not a CL. It's a league ffs. It's 38 games. If you can't win the league, then you're not good enough.

The game is very fast, the rules are very nuanced, fans on both sides think you’re against them, every decision is scrutinised over and over in slow motion and very often even the pundits can’t agree on what the decision should be. VAR has helped a bit, but mistakes keep on coming for all refs. And always will do until some form of perfect AI takes over.

ManUnited fans say they have definitive proof Oliver is biased against them, Arsenal fans say they have proof he’s biased against them and there’s a whole Youtube video showing his bias against Liverpool. What’s that telling you?

And in 23/24 all refs are ranked by VAR error mistakes and Oliver came 3rd. Stuart Atwell last. So no, he’s not particularly incompetent.

I can't remember Arsenal fans telling Wenger to not criticize the refs poor officiating during his tenure here. That was the media which kept saying we complained because we were soft. Wenger literally said (I'm paraphrasing) that when he dies and he gets to the gate of heaven he'll ask his maker where Refs were being directed to go and then he would choose the opposite direction.

How much worse could someone be so hurt by another person/entity for one to make such a statement. And this is knowing who Wenger was - a very meek man.

When fans cry about poor refereeing including potential conflict of interest (like Oliver and others getting paid by City's owners such huge amount of money for a small gig in the UAE and SA), it is because they want fairness not favoritism. And this applies to all teams and all kinds of sports. When a game is refd fairly a team gets the true picture of its performance and knows that the result they get is fair and more often than not correlated to the shift they put in and then they can evaluate where to improve upon.

It'll be highly disingenuous to try to put down others for expressing their discontent about poor refereing in the current cycle of events because you feel it wasn't addressed in the past.

When the call for accountability increases across all quarters (without one set of fans justifying a poor decision that goes against other teams as to why they should suck up the poor decision they themselves recently received), that's when change becomes imminent due to the constant pressure that would be mounted on the top brass - PGMOL, FA, PL etc. And this applies to all facets of life and endeavors. Like call for new leadership in a country, a father finally deciding to pay attention to his family, shareholders replacing a CEO etc. You get the drift.

The long and short of it is that, we should all want fairness in refereeing, and should continue to be vocal about it till we all (fans of all teams) get it because we contribute immensely to the sport and would want to consistently consume healthy products.

There's my little epistle.

We’re not going to get anywhere bro. It’s like discussing climate change or chem trails. People see what they want to see and no amount of logic or facts can overcome their opinion.

I will not pipe down.

Michael Oliver's stats vs Arsenal compared to Premier League teams make for eye-opening reading

If one referee gives to Arsenal players 8 red cards in 55 matches (14% of matches), it is not normal.

And referees are not the reason that Arsenal hasn't won the title last season, I have never said that.
It really isn’t eye opening reading. Where’s his figures for other clubs, and other seasons. And what about other ref statistics for other clubs and other seasons. How do they all compare. Be very careful not to jump to conclusions as my old professor used to tell me in my research days.

These mistakes come every season, for all clubs.
Not on the same level they dont.
The stats don’t lie in this either, always near the bottom of the table for fouls committed and least yellows yet always seem to end up with the most red cards.

I don't want the will to educate to be opposed by the will to win. That makes the educator sound like an idiot.
