Honestly there is a very big number of Arsenal fans who thought the Saliba incident last season shouldn't be a penalty but now claim that the Gyokeres one is a penalty. They're falling on the opposite side of the same contradiction. For me either both are penalities or neither are, and I'm on the side that neither should be penalties. For me as long you get the ball first anything that comes after is an accidental follow through, I like some side of physicality in the game to remain still.

That's because imo, the Saliba incident with Pedro *wasn't* a penalty. He got enough of the ball. With regards to Gyokeres vs Pope, you do realize that Gyokeres got to the ball first, right? Pope's "touch" of the ball is completely inconsequential and then he wipes Gyokeres out. It's one of the more stonewall penalties you'll see. At no stage does Pope "win the ball", it's a foul anywhere on the pitch.

I don't know why there are some Arsenal fans who seem to be so conditioned to the rules not being applied appropriately to us that they have to make up justifications for why ridiculous decisions x,y, and z are in fact 'correct'.

Has anyone else noticed how rarely we talk about referees after Champions League matches? Why can’t the Premier League bring in top UEFA officials instead of relying on the same old Mancunian mafia? They all probably speak better English, and they seem far less likely to fold under Sky-driven narratives or Howard Webb’s PR posturing

Came here to say exactly something like this. It's insane that I'm reading some on here thinking that it might not be a penalty on Gyokeres. Nevermind the false equivalency someone made with that and the Saliba v Brighton one.

It's a stonewall penalty. If that's an opposition striker against us and Raya does what Pope did, my only reaction is 'oh bollocks, that's a penalty'. There was no thought it my mind it wouldn't be given.

Big or small Salary shouldn't make them crap at thier job. English ref paid well enough compared to Spanish Italian German refs who most of them got 2nd jobs

Everytime me and my friends sit back to watch a CL game we laugh and bring this up.

You watch the game so relaxed in regards to the refereeing… there are not any scandals. Yes of course some things don’t go your way, and there’s the annoying handball rules for penalties, but it all just FEELs normal.

The officiating in the PL just doesn’t feel normal for me. Something is off. Doesn’t take an expert to notice it due to all the crazy red cards we’ve received but you can just tell there’s something going on under the hood there. It stinks.

I was talking to a United fan tonight. He told me he hates Arsenal so I asked him why
He said 1) the way you play football 2) your set pieces 3) your fanbase
I said you've got me on the fanbase, but how can you hate a team because of 1) and 2). Anyway... I asked him what he thought of the red cards we received last season and he nodded and said it was dodgy. I said if a petition is started he needs to sign it (I'm waiting for the petition I linked to earlier to go live).

Petitions are meant to be debated in parliament if they reach 100,000 signatures but I'm not sure this is something for parliament (I'm not sure of the jurisdiction). Anyway...a petition that reached 1M signatures should surely make the PL stop and think

Yes we know this. I don't care about the salary thing. My point is that an ex- referee is calling HW out. I've heard of Clattenberg too, so he can't be a nobody. I'm hoping more people in the field will start to speak up.

I actually hadn't thought of that, I don't remember the last time I felt we got robbed on the UCL while it's every other week on the prem, insane.

For some reason I’m pretty certain if that was Harry Kane, they would have given it imo. Reason being is back when AW was manager, some of these refs had a chip on their shoulder and they’d let the “he’s not that type of player” narrative cloud their judgement.

It's also good bring up the Dave Kitson interview after Wenger left (every once in a while) where he said how Pulis literally made their players fall into berserk bloodlust before we play them, which eventually led to Ramsey's leg break.

This was possible because refs were tolerating other clubs' players clattering ours all the time knowing they'd get away with it. Diaby got ****ed, Eduardo got ****ed, Ramsey got ****ed...

Well some of us weren't watching then. I'm watching now and am sick of it and think we need to actually get off our arses and do something about it. It's actually ridiculous that it's been going on for decades and no bugger has decided to do something about it
