• To all AM members and guests.

For the start of the new season, Arsenal Mania has relaunched the news side of the site. All articles are written by genuine Arsenal fans with no hidden agenda. You can visit the site via the menu at the top of the forum pages or go direct to our homepage

Additionally, Arsenal Mania is now sending all its registered members a bi-weekly Briefing Bulletin containing a digest of news and views from both parts of the site. Some of you may have already received the first edition and those that haven't should do so before the big kick off against United. If you are a guest visitor to this forum then if you join as a member, you will automatically receive the Bulletin.

Please support both these initiatives and help ensure the long term future of our site.

They are called Referees and they are TERRIBLE

Do you think refs consciously treat Arsenal differently than other teams?

Anyone who feels sorry for or defends refs, are absolute bellends.

The ones that are good you never hear about, it's the ones that are useless corrupt ****s (that seemingly are also se***l freaks in their private life, is that who you WANT to actually be sticking up for ffs) that deserve everything they get.

Bunch of w8nkers they are.

I can accept the ref sometimes making some mistakes in real time if its not too blatant but VAR should basically never make mistakes. But their problem is they seem to change the rules for things every few months so they don't even know what the rule is themselves, like handball rules for example. In the PL handballs are all over the place, in the CL it's a lot more clear because they have a principle and they stick to it, agree with it or not at least it's consistent.

Could also be some corruption though. And then if the rules aren't clear then it would be easier to explain away their blatantly bad calls.

Also Howard Webb is a disgrace and needs replacing. And the VAR team should be a specialist team not these bozo refs doing VAR duty as well. Sometimes it seems like they are more concerned with protecting their mates than doing a good job.

Shouldn't be the same guys doing VAR and refereeing, they are way too close. Its like getting accouniting and auditing from the same company.

PGMOL should only be referees + someone to look after them and their interests.
VAR should be another company with no links to PGMOL
On top we should have an independent comitee reviewing their performance, with no ties to either company.

And another thing.. These guys just look like they're stuck in the 80s. We need highly professional, fit and intelligent people for the job who dont look out of place in 2025.

"Clear and obvious error"

I'm rolling my eyes at this point

Separately, is the yellow card rule for picking up the ball to delay restart eradicated from the game now?

Their left back Sessegnon did it multiple times, one time I found pretty blatant ... especially in the context of what we've seen

Sessegnon did a lot more than just that, these ****ing refs will watch Saka get fouled a million times over and won't even pretend to consider a yellow. When refs allow it to continue it just emboldens players to keep escalating their fouls and eventually one of them will actually just cause an inury. Saka has immense patience with these horrendous pricks because i'd have picked up so many cards by just raging at the refs if i was him, it's a joke.

I wasn't to bothered by the decision today. I think it was a 50/50 call. Should have stuck with the onfield decision really though.

Oddly In real time I thought the challenge was outside the box, but it wasn't.

Learn from Saka who makes all this moaning about refs irrelevant.

Don't learn from him how to dive. He's terrible at it, that's why he's our talisman too. Pure Arsenal DNA shining in a haramball takeover. He's not winning the position for the ball in the challenge, he's simply throwing his body and falling from a contact that shouldn't make him fall at all if he's the one carrying all the force on it.

This is so rotten and it feels awful. After all, it is “just a sport”. Different teams try to win, and the same rules apply to everyone. Is it about money entering the picture, or is it that for some people in positions of power, this has become too personal? I can no longer believe in the third option, which is coincidence. I would always like to be on the referees’ side, but their actions make it practically impossible to support them.

My problem has been the re-refereeing of the incident. Ref gives the PK and there's not enough of an obvious error to rescind. It's just maddening.

Have to have your leg broken at this point to have a penalty called or a yellow card given against you if you play for Arsenal.
