• To all AM members and guests.

For the start of the new season, Arsenal Mania has relaunched the news side of the site. All articles are written by genuine Arsenal fans with no hidden agenda. You can visit the site via the menu at the top of the forum pages or go direct to our homepage

Additionally, Arsenal Mania is now sending all its registered members a bi-weekly Briefing Bulletin containing a digest of news and views from both parts of the site. Some of you may have already received the first edition and those that haven't should do so before the big kick off against United. If you are a guest visitor to this forum then if you join as a member, you will automatically receive the Bulletin.

Please support both these initiatives and help ensure the long term future of our site.

You may discuss this in the thread

They are called Referees and they are TERRIBLE

Do you think refs consciously treat Arsenal differently than other teams?

You guys have to look back the VAR moment in the palace bournemouth game. Ref gave a yellow card and VAR tried to make it a red card while there was a covering defender. Literally making up its own rules and the referee for once stuck to his decision.

This thread is absolute madness! If Saliba had made that challenge yesterday people would have sworn at the ref and praised VAR for over turning it, shouting that he clearly touched the ball. No wonder refs and their families get such a lot of abuse, humans are incapable of objectivity.

If Saliba had made that challenge yesterday the VAR would have had a quick check and fulham a penalty. Go look at the joa pedro penalty last season. We are sick of the rules being bent whatever way the refs want and its never in our favor.

That was clearly not a penalty yesterday. Defender got clear contact with the ball. If that’s a penalty then the game is gone.

The only reason the ref spent long reviewing it was because the camera wasn’t working.
You can’t go through a player to get the ball though, that’s the issue, Howard Webb said exactly that last season, the touch doesn’t matter if it’s man first, which it was.

On top of that, how can it be classed as a clear and obvious error? The fact it is being debated and every pundit I have seen so far says it WAS a pen means it is debatable so again not clear and obvious. They may as well ditch referees at this point.

It was a fantastic challenge. If Saliba had made that I'd be very proud. Mind you I'm proud of him anyway. Week after week quietly building a fortress.

I think we all agree it is a soft penalty, but it is not a clear and obvious misstake! As dino says well below. We are not going to see a decision like that go against any other team this season.

If Saliba made that challenge (which he wouldn’t btw) I’d be wondering why the hell he dived in wrong side and took that risk.

if these kind of decisions given against Liverpool or other top teams then we can say fair play PGMOL they sticking with this rule. but if they ignore it then we gonna be pissed and rightly so.

also if England want to win something in summer they need to protect their best RW how many times does he need to be kicked?

I'm lost for words how bad these referees are, it's unbelievable.
You'd think standards can't really get any lower but week after week we're taught they can. What's even the point of having them on the pitch anymore, with VAR interfering all the time.

The feigning a head injury and stopping the entire game has to stop. Fulham did this the entire first half it’s part of the reason why we couldn’t get going. Ref stopped an attack with eze in yard of space cause the Fulham player got barely slapped by his own player.

The usual suspects in this thread ofc saying it's not a penalty

"He won the ball..." ; yeah how did Kevin win the ball guys? He ****ing took Saka out to do so :lol:

They get off on being contrarian. It's a weird fetish. Like virtue-signalling and cuckoldry.

You've got to pick your battles with ref decisions.

It is a debatable one but if that was an Arsenal defender I'd want it overturned, I'll be honest.

Think we're better off getting annoyed at the obviously heinous decisions like Rice getting sent off and the Gyokeres pen.

If Sarr wasn't going wide it's arguably DOGSO, the covering defender was already busy. Not sure what is the problem here anyway, if people got their wish to have an independent panel on the screens you'd see a lot more of these discussions with the ref breaking the game flow even further.

Why do people feel the need to gaslight others. It was neither a fantastic or clean challenge. The outrage and abuse officials receive is self inflicted. Give a call either way on field for these and it is far more acceptable.

It does and should not meet the threshold for a video review. In such subjective cases where you can make an argument either way I think you've just got to go with the on field decision.

Exactly. The fact it took 8 minutes for them to review means it was not a clear or obvious error

What is unbelievable is that I am in a position where people reproach me for making a profit. The people who lose money – nobody says a word.
