They are called Referees and they are TERRIBLE

Do you think refs consciously treat Arsenal differently than other teams?

On the face of it I don’t see what difference it’d make. Seems it’d basically be “yeah we’ve checked it again but the answer is still no.”

Giving a sense of power to calm agitated coaches.

That’s why it will be used to waste time. Incidents already get checked. But to stop it and request it to be checked again will just slow the game down

There was a time when I felt this rule change would be good for some reason but if you actually think about the consequences it would bring you realize it would be terrible (sorry Arsène).

This would essentially render the high line and offside trap immidiately extinct, every team would start to sit ultra deep or the risk of leaving too much space behind would be too big. It gives the attacker too much advantage and would force everyone to go ultra conservative.

Hope it plays out poorly there and they stop this experiment. I'd rather change the rule to check only the feet.

this erases line hugger like Inzhaghi and make tall slow number 9s like Jan Koller a key player

Only works if VAR is independent from PGMOL. The idiots that currently run VAR would just back up their ref mates.
Yeah I generally don’t like this idea. Even more passage ways to exert bias and favouritism.

It’s simple, if the reffing system is crap enough that this is being thought of, it’s not good enough. Get rid of the PGMOL or tear it shreds and build it back up again. The corporation is a disgrace.

This is kinda random, but I've watched a few of the ref cams and tbh it kind of puts a whole new perspective on what they do.

The game is moving really quickly, there's a lot of constant chatter from the players, and they are under immense pressure.

I don't like to give refs undeserved praise but I've underestimated the difficulty of their role and I can easily see how decisions can be gotten wrong especially when they can be subjective.

It's still highly annoying when both VAR and the ref mess something obvious up though, that's undeniable.

I dont understand how this is supposed to even address the complaints about the "tight margins". You're just moving the goalpost for where the tight margin would be. There would still be complaints about "holy **** there's barely a pixel there!!" and the same dumb **** we go through now. The offside rule is probably one of the only things that are refereed relatively correctly in the European game lol

Credit where it’s due today the ref was pretty good. Brighton tried to use the technique of making us the villains while actually being the ones using dark arts and he wasn’t buying any of their crap.

It’s so crazy how different we are being refereed this season to last.

Interesting i was completely fuming after the first half. Gave us a cheap yellow card in the 10th minute fine that can happens, now we know the level. Then just ignore cynical bad tackle from Mitoma, gomez and Mitoma again trying to stop the keeper from counter. There was more but thoose 3 were the obvious ones. Then there defense tactic by running in front of a player stop and then scream for a free kick and get it every time. The second half was much better I think the stadium, fans och manager get to him in the beginning, but when we got a hold of the game in the second half and just controlled the proceeding it was a non issue any more.

Yea the problem was that this not a one time occurrence it was there way of defending running in and falling and in the first half the referee fell for it every time.

After yesterday and the matches last season this is starting to become a”hate-match” that it called in called in sweden.

This would never in a million years have happened to Pep and we all know it

I agree that it wouldn’t happen to Pep. It is a sending off offense though. Under the sending off section for team officials in Rule 12:

“ entering the field of play to:
confront a match official (including at half-time and full-time)”

So no matter how pretty he looks when he jogs. Even if his story about confronting a match official about adding time… it’s a sending off offense.

This ref was very clear with that last foul vs zubimendi today vs Leverkusen. Holding/blocking the defender just before the header was saved in the 90th minute. The type of foul than in the past would’ve never been called. But until the media frenzy about corner tactics. It’ll be interesting to see if they treat defensive fouls the same as offensive fouls. But corners are going to be closely policed in the conclusion of this champion’s league, at least against Arsenal.

Arsenal Quotes

This is a big moment of happiness...we waited a long time for this and the happiness is linked sometimes with the suffering, and the time that you have to wait....this was more important than all the other (trophies) we have twice won the double, but were not under pressure then like we were today.
