I couldn't believe their message/response about sporting integrity and some vague threat about taking action they have no recourse for. The people who run liverpool are acting like children, just like we do as fans. As far as i understand, the other clubs are unhappy how liverpool have handled it, because these things happen to most other clubs at some time also. There is nothing unique. I can't see how this is any different to the brentford vs arsenal decision last yr in that its a procedural error. We were in a more serious position, winning the league at least 2/3 of the way through the season, yet those in charge of arsenal acted like adults.
Other clubs may be unhappy but only Neville has been openly critical. Personally, I don't think apologies from repeat offenders should be meekly accepted in the name of fake sportsmanship. We should have argued the Brentford error last season but tbh, we didn't have the standing as a club or the hogh profile manager. This is the straw that broke the camel's back and I'm glad that the camel was Liverpool.

Also why can't they stop the game and give the goal? They made an obviously wrong decision that was gonna change the game

Not sure wtf they looking at and they thought its offside. Also why the hell they in hurry?

Just listened to the audio, I dont want to defend them cos its such a bad decision but that audio makes it sound so confusing.

Not the offside, but who is talking to who, what they are talking about/referring too etc.

I imagine its a lot easier when you know who's voice is who's but this just sounds like some xbox lobby voice chat, even has the bad language.

The way they talk is weird too, its so rushed and unclear.

What a shambles. Why are they rushing through it like they've got to get home before their dinner gets cold?

Also blaming the rule that they couldn't stop the game and go back to rectify it is a bit silly. Yeah that rule is probably dumb but the way they worked through that decision was shambolic.

In Rugby the video ref confirms with the ref before he looks at it what the original decision was. As you say, that just sounds like a complete mess.

What really annoyed me is the 'cant do anything', like.. you can, but you're choosing not too.

Here's hoping that mistake just encourages them to release more audios.

Yes it's a stupid mistake but it's so easy to see from the released material there was no hidden show of corruption or anything like that. Just a guy that ****ed up at work, like all of us have done at one point.

The solution from the outside seems pretty simple too, but maybe we're not accounting for how quick they expect these decisions to be and that's why they talk like that.

This is why the PGMOL need to be open. I imagine everyone who listens to that will agree that the communication between them all is shockingly bad, but from that they will receive input on how to improve.

To be honest, as bad as the mistake was I feel somewhat sorry for them, they are clearly working in a high pressure environment where everything needs to be quick quick quick.

They also know that every **** up is under the microscope and then open to ridicule/scrutiny.

That 90mins must be so stressful. I wouldn't want that job.

As individuals I have some sympathy for them but as an organisation I have absolutely none.

You know who has an actual tough job in a high pressure environment where everything has to be quick quick?

The Military. And they have, over many many many years, almost perfected a communication protocol for exactly this purpose. And these arrogant tw@ts at PGMOL have taken all of that best practice and thrown it under the bus.

They need to bring in an ex military man and pay him to completely redo whatever this “protocol” is.

Ps: im not saying the military don’t make mistakes, they do and I pretty much hate them but for this kind of thing they are the standard bearers.

My word.

He was drunk. That is the only possible explanation here.

What the fk.

Think it was a bad communication between all parties + rushing. The audio doesn't do them much service, they even drew the ****ing line, which made it crystal as far as him being on side.

Honestly, clubs need to grow a ****ing pair and put pressure on the FA and the PGMOL on this, public sentiment is at an all time high for them to do so. Why are they so afraid?

You could get the Prem clubs together, find an equal amount everyone is comfortable with putting on the table and set up a training/testing facility. Make refs undergo evaluation every half a season or so, hold seminars, show examples of how the rules should be applied.

Get everyone together thrice a season (pre-season, winter break and post season) for debriefing and setting up how rules should be applied and how they can be better.

Make it professional and make sure refs get a decent wage for doing the job.

It's not that hard setting all this up (as far as an operation) and getting properly trained, professional refs going in half a decade or less.

Clubs will gladly pool funds for that and there's the easy PR of having this trickle down to the Championship.

Surely the FA can see the financial angle of bad refereeing standards?

I've said this before:

I'm amazed the PL is happy with the product that the PGMOL is providing. It's hurting the reputation and entertainment factor of a multi-billion pound sports business

I believe the rules state you cannot stop the game once the referee restarts the action, unfortunately. My favorite was the guy agreeing, "Offside, goal, yeah." Come again?

Yeah that is the case, but challenge it.

Ok a rule is in place but you just dropped a humongous **** up, have something about you to realise in the moment that yes, there is a rule, but today, in this moment, it needs challenging.

They could have stopped that game if they told the ref too, nothing happened in the game from the time they realised, just do it and then explain your reasons why after, hindsight is a wonde..blah blah, but I bet the PGMOL would have been thanking them if they did stop it and corrected this at the time instead of being ridiculed again.

They absolutely could have called down to say it was a mistake. There's no rational reason why a technicality should stand in the way of getting the right call on a goal ffs.

The people in charge are more concerned with following minor rules than achieving the actual aim of the entire process.
