They are called Referees

Are you for VAR or not?

Honestly think the PL needs to raise the quality of refereeing by quite some level. That Dean, Moss etc. are allowed to keep on going year in and year out while being such poor referees has built up this massive frustration among the fan base. VAR isn't helping one bit either as their incompetence as a group just becomes all the more obvious. VAR instead of helping correct clear and obvious errors has become a nit pickers way to write off goals for offside while slowing things down.

The sheer incompetence is just so frustrating. The fact that crazy fouls don’t even get a yellow while small brushes are given reds. It’s just all over the place. Think both the refereeing body and the rule makers at the PL need a shake up.

Amazing. 1 wrong decision against 2 different clubs results in death threats and pundits actually talking up about the injustice . But 15 years targeting us and nothing said from pundits and no death threats from supporters.. looks like we’ve been too nice just like our players for too long.

Anyone who thinks referees haven't cost us at least 9 points this season, and given Utd at least that many points, is being naive. We do not have the quality to blow opponents away. That is both due to us declining and the league strengthening. Decisions often make the difference.

So, dermot Gallagher on sky says saka incident was correct. Explains that it is saka that initiates contact and that it should be free kick to villa. Well does that not make it an incorrect decision???? Ffs.

This is a case of why VAR isn't helping and should just be binned. The argument before VAR was that it would settle the constant debate around referees, but it's just made it worse.

If a ref drops a clanger without VAR everyone gets annoyed but kinda accepts it, cos human error, but when they drop clangers with VAR it just ramps up the outrage so much more.

A computer will never referee a game, it's always a human making the judgements and humans will always make mistakes. People will never 100% accept that, but I think it's easier for them to accept that without technology than with technology.

Put a goal line buzzer on the ref's watch and be done with it, accept that mistakes will be made.

Obviously death threats are beyond the pale. That's inarguable. Having said that, the sheer arrogance of Dean and the FA and the refusal to ever acknowledge that they've made mistakes over a period of years is an affront to supporters and the sport itself and that's before we consider that it's probably cost a lot of people money on punts over the years. Maybe they should wake up and be accountable.

VAR has been a good thing on the whole. People seem to forget what it was like pre VAR , there was a massive howler from a ref every other game. There were also loads of dogey offside goals, which has now basically been eradicated.

Although not perfect, the way VAR is being used this season is a big improvement on last IMO, and I would say there refereeing errors have a far smaller impact on games now.

That being said, you obviously do still get some bad decisions because of the lack of quality referees using the VAR system. The solution is to get better officials using VAR, not to scrap it entirely.

Pretty much this, no referee should face death threats from evil idiots but they need to be held accountable for their actions. Expain after the game why they made that decision. It costs Managers jobs , positions in the league and cup exits. Refs should not be rewarded with work for continual bias and mistakes. Would not happen in the real world.
