Do you think Partey will sign for Arsenal?

I couldnt even care what they thought of him. Im happy they held him in high regard, as Im sure they did. Why wouldnt they? All Im saying is you must be wet behind the ears if think he was the main reason.

Obviously if he was managing Hull the likes of Özil and Sanchez wouldn’t follow him there but if you combine our then standing as a club plus his reputation it meant we were much higher up in the queue than otherwise.

Don’t think it’s a controversial take tbh, helped our recruitment stay ahead of Sp**s for so long even though they wanted to spend the money.

It’s far from controversial. At the end of the day Wenger was/is an immense human, an icon and his reputation as someone who creates the perfect conditions for you to be seen at your best is probably second to none. People do tend to over-do it though. I mean I love Sanchez but with a lot of these players it was just the timing of their availability that made it possible to come to Arsenal more than anything, and then the huge hike in wages they were about to receive. I honestly think to play for Wenger was just a really big bonus. It’s far more true in the early days to say that players came here because of Wenger—particularly if we’re talking about the French lads.

Partey will hopefully join if Wenger gets involved somehow in the deal and whisper some beauties in his ears! Otherwise. Zero chance.

If it was just money and location we’d lag behind Sp**s and Chelsea badly in the last decade but it’s hard to ignore what a pull he was.
Huh? Sp**s pay their players **** all under Levy.

The only advantage Sp**s have had over us in the last few years is a more competent manager / proven track record at developing youngsters (both of which I think they’ve now lost by appointing Mourinho).

They’ve always been big spenders in the transfer market. Even in the Redknapp era where we had severe limitations.

I'm talking about wages though, which is what is relevant when a player is deciding between clubs. They simply can't / don't compete there.

Don’t get how transfer fees aren’t relevant though? You’d be competing for the same player if you could afford the same fee?

And it’s not like Levy was going to be paying the likes of Bale and Modric poverty wages.

Because you were talking about "pull": the factors that make one club more attractive than others to a player.

In that context the ability to pay transfer fees (which are negotiated between clubs) is irrelevant. It doesn't matter how much a player likes your club if you can't afford to buy him.

What is relevant to a club's "pull" are factors like the club's location, their prestige, their chances of silverware, the player's intended position and, usually most of all, the wages offered.

Chelsea, City and United can blow us out of the water when it comes to wages. However, Sp**s simply cannot. Their wage bill is puny compared to the top clubs: https://www.espn.co.uk/football/tot...ayer-wage-bill-closer-to-burnley-than-arsenal

And yes, it might surprise you but Modric and Bale were poorly paid (comparatively) during their time at Sp**s. Bale was on 50k when winning PFA player of the year, while Modric was only on 40k until the end of his time there, which is why you had stories like this:
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp calls on board to increase Luka Modric's wages

Sp**s are cheap as ****. There's no other way of putting it.

but Holding’s hair transplant was painless
100% a player that Mourinho would have a hard on for. Think he could actually join Sp**s, which is sickening.

No chance he is leaving Atletico for us.

Cant see Liverpool being interested in him as Fabinho plays that similar defensive role. Henderson still has a couple of years in him and Keita may kick on next season.

United on the other hand do need a replacement for Matic. They also have the money and wages. And by the looks of things they are in a strong position to get champions league football as they are basically into the semi finals of the EL and no doubt will get an easy semi and have to win the final and will do so. Unlike us.

Even if they dont win that top 4 in the league is very much in their grasp. They have a couple of tough fixtures but if they ride them their last 4 or 5 are quite easy.

By the business end they could find themselves like Chelsea with top 4 secured and in the final of the europa league so no pressure at all.

I'm convinced had we got top 4 last season and chelsea had missed out we would have seen a very different EL final.

We cant afford him. We need a cf and two CBS as well as another cm. There is no way we can drop 50 million on one play. Its 30 max for each player.

You are in for one hell of a ride this summer, if you expect us to sign two CBs.
I actually call the opposite and tell you we are most likely signing NONE.
Saliba, integrated Mari and Mavro coming back will be all that you get.

Focus lies on that CM position, clearly.
Strikers as Laca/Auba go, with their money being put back into it.
