Thomas Partey: Body Falling Apartey

Maybe

You're wrong, no?
I was looking forward to Jorginho yesterday, that's how bad this is.

Those quality turns with the ball where he gains the advantage under pressure are all gone, he plays like he doesn't want to be on the pitch at all.

Shame as I really liked him before but it's time for something else

Nobody bar Raya played well. Also, it was a very soft penalty that he conceded, but because he conceded it, it's a stain on his performance of course.

Also, when he left the pitch things didn't get any better. We created one chance, from a Raya goalkick.

Why are you always so eager to justify the softest fouls given against us as "definite" stonewall decisions? I can see why the ref gave the penalty but it was definitely a very soft penalty. The Atalanta player felt a slight pull OUTSIDE the penalty then proceeded to wait till he was inside and promptly went down. Compare this when Saka was bearing in on goal and Neuer took him down but that was apparently too soft for you to give a penalty.

You said the same about Rice's 2nd yellow. Which was another extremely soft infringement to get a card for. How many other players since then have you seen get a 2nd yellow for doing exactly the same? The answer is none.
Don't bother to reply to him.
He hates Arteta so much that he probably opened champagne bottle for this penalty.
It was very soft, contact was definitely OUTSIDE of the box and Ederson dived in the end.

Thought the penalty he conceded was soft as pig sh!t tbh, we really do concede some of the softest decisions generally.

Because as exciting as youth is, it comes with exuberance. Watch Nwaneri on Sunday, the kid had zero sense of defensive awareness. Kids will lose games for you because they will make a dumb mistake at the most inopportune time. J'inho and Partey know how to thwart attacks. That said, Partey is probably in his late 30s for his actual age.
I wouldn’t have replaced either with 17 year olds.

Onana was available for 50m. There were other choices to improve midfield, we just didn’t pull the trigger. Point is, this is our decision so we will need to live with it all season.

If you are spending £50m, you want to get a replacement of the Partey of 3 years ago, not a physical upgraded Partey. Onana cannot bring the ball up like Partey used to do. Onana is actually a number 8 and not a 6. Tielemans is playing the 6 role for Villa.

Now regarding Partey, I believe that Arteta had in mind to have Merino play the number 6 role and Partey as his replacement. The fact that Merino got injured before even playing a game, is very unfortunate. We will need to cope with it.

I would avoid any bigger investments in this area, Merino and Rice is one of the strongest CM pairs in Europe, and we still have Jorighno as a backup until MLS is ready to take that rotational position on the bench.

There are going to be free agents and loan options next summer to add another body if needed when Partey leaves and we can focus our budget on the LW and get a top player there

Merino honestly can't come in soon enough, sick to death of T Piddy starting serious games. Once Merino comes in, because of physicality even if you rest Rice you can still get away with playing Jorginho in there. The less of T Piddy the better.

TP5 didn't suddenly get worse. Everyone is playing worse. There is only 1 person who's responsible for this and that's Arteta. His magic is gone, you can't keep players motivated with light bulbs and children toys for long.

Don’t trust him against City tbh. Personally I’d go with Jorginho ahead of him as it’ll be a game of fine margins and so far this season he’s had a foolish moment or two every game.

Obviously Jorginho lacks athleticism but at least last season at the Etihad when he was paired with Rice he was switched on for the whole game.

As soon as Merino is healthy I doubt he starts an important game again for us again.

He's cooked, and based on how early Arteta pulled him today the manager knows it too.

When Merino eventually recovers, he’s not played football for 4-5 months. We will see Partey start well into next year imo

Who’s everyone? Because I still see some very good to decent performances being put out there.

You know I’m a massive Teta critic but putting this on him seems a bit of a cop out. I get positionally some players have a lot of running to do but is it on him when Partey has a lapse in concentration or Martinelli fails to look up and struggles to beat his man? 😂 Shouldn’t Saka, Gabriel, Saliba and co be facing the same problems then? You can’t really blame the manager for a player being limited or a dumb ass.

Saka and Martinelli never in great position. TP5 who can't pick passes between the lines anymore, Ødegaard before his injury was ghosting. Ben White playing absolute mediocre stuff too except for 1 game. Arteta has to start fixing the gameplan and tactics. He needs to add another dimension or magic... We are just playing crap in general.

The only ones who are performing outstandingly are Saliba, Gabriel and Raya.

But the season has just started?

Do you expect us to be in our best form when we have new players, players coming back, older players in TP and Jorginho, and players who arent fully up to speed for this season.

Give it time, yes we arent looking our best right now but its a long season to come still. What matters more is that we get back to fitness and prepare for the business end of the season.

The fact is Partey is done. We are just slow to recognize this. And this is coming from a historical Partey fan.

Too late regardless. We have to manage what we have.
