Thomas Partey: No Doubting Thomas

Offer him one year, maximum two. Way too risky to give him more than that. Will also show how committed he is, if he really wants to stay here he`ll take it, if not he`ll go Saudi.

How people even manage to think that he’s ‘chosen’ to stay fit and not get injured because he wants a new deal is beyond me.

Partey’s injuries weren’t contact ones. It’s possible that you are more likely to pick up the muscular niggles he used to get simply because you don’t look after yourself right. How you train, what you eat, what you (don’t) drink - all of this makes a big difference.

It’s possible. I’m not saying that’s what happened, it’s most likely just coincidence, but it is possible…

If there's anything to this it's probably him being more willing to play through more severe pain when the bag is in sight. It's not uncommon, at any level really. I'm sure most people on here have done things in their work life that they maybe wouldn't have been ****ed enough to do if there wasn't something big on the line.

Muscle problems don't just disappear, but most muscle injuries - except for complete tears - don't necessarily stop you from playing in a binary sense, it's all about how much pain you can manage and how open you are with your problems with the medical staff.

Given his documented off-field behavior it's not that much of a stretch to say his pain tolerance get bumped up a bit when his future income is in play. It's still just speculation of course but safe to say Partey hasn't exactly behaved in a way that gives him the benefit of the doubt.

What you said makes sense. Injuries - whether they're physical or mental - come in different forms. That being said, his form is also very convenient when most 'older' footballers try to optimise their earnings.

We need insight from the club on this one.

It’s because he had surgery last season that was causing these muscle injuries, that’s why he was out so long last season.

People think we gonna get rid of zinchenko, kiwior, Partey, Jesus, Jorginho, Neto the keeper. Maybe Tomiyasu and Trossard as well. So we gonna 8-9 players by the looks of it

Has he though? We've got 349 pages worth of opinions here, and yet, no one has heaped as much praise on him until now considering the conditions.
A fit and on form Partey is a world class midfielder. Absolutely critical player for us and easily our best DM since Gilberto. A Partey/P.Vieira midfield combination would dominate the league.
People who know ball have always rated him tbf.

What's the point you're trying to make here, exactly? He was good-to-world-class at Atlético. Then arrived at Colney, and got developed into a new position - one that he hadn't played before. Did well in that, but hadn't performed to this level before.

Saying he was good during the start of this patch isn't exactly a 'told-you-so'

I posted that almost 2 years ago and I’ve been saying similar things about him before that. Quite a long patch.

Well yeah that’s because most people are parrots that just repeat what other people say. He’s always been good for us really apart from his first season.

I’ve said time and time again that he’s one of Arteta’s favourite players and he isn’t gonna get benched. People been saying he’s gonna get dropped for ages but never happens. People believe in narratives over reality.

He’s definitely been good when fit here. No doubt about that. The doubt is about why his fitness is suddenly fantastic as a 31 year old after 4 years as a perma crock here, in his last year of his contract.

I'll be wary of top players at that age in their last year of contract...

Just a reminder how Özil and Aubameyang turns to crap after signing up but were on god mode during their last year of contract

Arteta loves Thomas, the captain loves Thomas, the players love Thomas. They all want him as their DM

Arsenal Quotes

In 1997/98 we became English champions as I had set myself three missions to carry out which I felt were essential. One: to have an impact on the result and the team's playing style. Two: to foster the player's individual development. Three: to strengthen the structure of the club and enhance its global influence.
