Thomas Partey: No Doubting Thomas

Well yeah that’s because most people are parrots that just repeat what other people say. He’s always been good for us really apart from his first season.
20/21: average
21/22: poor start, picked up, injured for the run-in
22/23: elite first 6 months
23/24: Missed 2/3 of the PL season

“Always really good” is a massive stretch. Don’t know why he gets graded on a curve, guy cost us a goal against Chelsea by vacating his position to allow Neto time and space to get a shot away but it was crickets in this thread post match.

When Partey is on it he is something else tbf. To paraphrase my favourite poster his interpretation of the position is probably my favourite. Think that’s why he gets so much slack on here when he puts in the drunken shifts and costs us goals and whatever.

For me though the calculus is really simple. Even ignoring the off field stuff, he’s obviously not our future so we should move on. We can build an elite team with Rice at 6 as long as we get a tempo-controller midfielder. I don’t understand why people get so hung up on the prospect of life without Partey, get a grip honestly.

His time here has definitely not been that of a world class midfielder. He himself acknowledged half of his time here has been a 4/10.

Because Partey is Arteta’s tempo controller from the 6 position. Nothing we’ve ever seen from Mikel indicates he wants one at 8. We actually had one in Xhaka but then he got Havertz and Merino. We’ll get worse if we release Thomas and it might take longer than you think to get better again.

Partey is not our tempo controller. He literally plays at one pace, he is always progressive and always looks to play between the lines.

Ødegaard is both our tempo controller AND our creative playmaker. I would like him freed of one of those burdens, and the other 8 should either be a tempo controller or a creative attacker.

Zinchenko and Jorginho are the only other guys in our squad that can be called tempo controllers, and even then I’m not sure whether Zinny controls tempo or just always slows it down…

He’s always been good when he’s got, just been injured too many times during his time here.

Blaming players for ‘vacating space’ is just bias though, you wouldn’t say that about Rice if it was the same. Players are always gonna ‘vacate space’ you don’t stay in the same spot all game.

Watch the goal again. There was no reason for him to be standing in a CB position.

They were playing deeper, you can see how Havertz and Martinelli were the ones in the midfield. The instruction is for the DM to join the defence and sit deep after scoring.

Thomas is a really good player when fit 8 times out of 10. Go and look, Ode has had off games, Saka, Rice, everyone!
It's a mystery how this has been a constant debate here!
Arsenal fans are a weird bunch! I mean, I'm struggling to see how a player so pivotal to a team's performance over a long period of time when fit can be held with such little esteem!
How can a single player be rated by all our coaches past and present, by most pundits and former players, by teammates, hell, even by most fans of other teams yet be so criminally underated by his own!?

A fit Thomas Partey! Cmon y'all!

Yeah when fit… which is barely ever then he takes 2/3 games to get into form.

What is this nonsense?

This. I think people have completed erased those periods when Partey would go missing towards the end of the season when we most needed him hence why the club had to go out and sign Rice/Jorginho.

I’ve also never seen a player throw in the white towel then get pushed back on the pitch after a midfield of Sissoko, and Hojbjerg put him in a blender 😭

The nonsense is that you don't know ball in his case or have a certain prejudice of your own that is not related to ball!
I am sure if I looked I would find a goal conceded because of the Ballon d'or winner! Everyone is culpable!
Explain your 2/3!
If you were right Mikel would put him out of the team! Isn't that the reason he got a 100m player who plays his position or a the Euro winner? Think!

The team has been missing other important players. That's the main reason why we've been poor early season. It reflected on Saka on Harvetz on Rice and on everyone. We did not have enough technical players but with the gradual getting back to fitness of Ode and others we have had better control of matches!
Good players feed on each other! It's the reason why we haven't won in a long while despite having huge individual talents!
The team functions as a unit!

Finishing every sentence with a ! or a ? is a more impressive achievement than TPiddy’s football tbf

Chill bro. Was just my way of saying you shouldn’t do it unless you want everyone to picture you ranting and raving.

Wow the vitriol in this thread is shocking.

I am always surprised that so many people sign up to join a forum to argue against people who support the same club that they do because they hold different opinions about how people play football. It’s kind of weird to be honest. That being said.

Partey has been good on many occasions and he has had some bad games too. He’s had injury problems as well but no one knows his body better than him so if he feels injured and can’t continue no coach should push him back on a pitch. 🤣

Let us enjoy his new found shooting accuracy and hope that his fitness prevails. As for whether he should get an extension…. That’s not for us to decide anyway. The club will do whatever the club wants to do. If it doesn’t work out … 🤷‍♂️
