Thomas Partey (Out)

Love it

I wanted him gone in the summer for 2 reasons but I was pushed back on as if I wanted us to sell Saka.

Now what I predicted has come to fruition and everyone is on board
Wanting him gone means nothing. Someone has to give them money for him. He didn’t want to go to Saudi and seria a clubs would offer only loans. The club was open to sell in Jan. Just didn’t have offers

A lot of people wanted to sell him in the summer. I was more on the fence because I didn’t want to lose xhaka AND partey in the same window, but unfortunately Partey returned to his old ways before last season in terms of fitness.

I was fine losing both if it meant replacing both. Not because I thought either wasn't good enough, but because:

1. Xhaka wanted to go, so just cash in while he's at his peak value, and replace, get younger and rejuvenate.

2. I knew Partey would get injured, and I repeated it multiple times across multiple threads - the only reason people felt differently about him this summer, is that he ended last season fit. Partey fit and firing is a 10/10 player. But he's available max 40-45% of the time. And I was sure that in a season where we'd be playing in 4 competitions, I'd rather have a 7/10 player who is available for 80-90% of the season, than a 10/10 player for 50% of the season, because even though 50% of a season sounds good you can't choose the 50%. He was guaranteed to be unavailable, and in that unavailability there was a guarantee that there would be key games in that absence, because now at our level, every game is essentially a key game.

You simply can't have that.

Over the past summer, people wanted to keep the players who ended the season fit (Tierney and Partey) and wanted to sell the player(s) who ended the season injured (Tomi)

And I was adamant, adamant, that it was the other way around.

Honestly, I'd sell him in January if someone came along. If there was at least £30m on the table, I'd take it and run.

I would rather have a slightly lesser player or a young player with potential who needed to adapt, and take our chances with them, than keep Partey, watch him get injured over and over, and wonder what it would have been like if we had one extra available midfielder in the squad.

Yeh you’re right man. I’m done with partey now. Would probably even take £20m if it came to that because I’m not sure how many clubs can even afford his wages.

Might as well keep him for the run in? It's not like anybody will offer us big money for him.

You may have a nasty shock on the way if you're expecting Tomi to remain fit fella.

I'd be willing to bet that Tomi makes more matchday squads (starting and bench, all comps) across the season than Tierney and Partey combined.

EDIT: And just to confirm my suspicions, I looked it up. He's already appeared this season 10 times and combined Tierney and Partey have 8 appearances between them.

There's a major difference between Tomi's availability and theirs. It's laughable to even put him in the same category.

DOUBLE EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to add in other comps. That's just Tomi's league appearances. In all comps Tomi has 16 appearances so far this season. Combined Tierney and Partey have 11.

I pray Tomi stays fit. I have a nagging doubt. No Gooner is laughing about any aspect of this fella.

He will see out his contract and leave on a free after the 24-25 season.

His wages and personal situation mean no one will take a risk paying a big fee for him.
