For me Rice and Vieira is a closer comparison than Partey. Partey plays like a typical Spanish midfielder lowkey.

Rice is not good enough on the ball to be compared to Vieira. Vieira was actually that good with the ball he had this signature move where he would flick the ball over someone and bring it down on the other side with perfect control. His first touch was fantastic he was the prototype for the modern midfielder with the blend of skill and power he had.

I agree that they aren’t close in quality I just meant Vieira and Rice are both robust all action players with long strides. I’d compare Paddy to Rice before Partey.

Partey is a different temperament and play style all together.

It’s probably more accurate to say Vieira was like Rice and Partey combined with change. It’s impossible to overstate how good Vieira was in that role he would easily be the best 8 (or whatever FM calls it now) in the world if he was playing now.

Distance covered means nothing if you’re as easily bypassed as he is. Teams have been getting free runs at goal all season with him as a 6.
No they have not. This is such a lazy comment. Teams are getting free runs yet we have conceeded the least amount of xg even including the two games where we played with 10 men. On top of my head the only one who gave Thomas a hard time was Morgan Rogers and even that game we won 2:0

That’s a testament to Saliba and Gabriel snuffing out then danger.

Even Diaby or Ramsey if in this generation would be great 8's

I think it`s very obvious that he has lost a a yard or two of pace and quite a lot of agility. Partey in his prime at Madrid quick, mobile and difficult to bypass. Doesn`t mean he still can`t cover a lot of around. Still a very good player and I`m intrigued to see what plans the club has for him.

Paddy Vieira was special. He gets in an all time PL XI IMO.

Even though we had the best player in the world in Henry at the time, Vieira was the name on the team sheet that made me think “no chance we lose today.”

paddy needs a statue, unreal player and captain, got overshadowed by other players but was the most complete midfielder i have ever seen growing up.

Agree on this everyone who watched us after new year last season can see we are more shaky this season because Partey constantly fails to defend his zone correctly. The defense feels under more pressure so far but as you say later. Saliba and Gabriel have been doing well. But also there is a reason why David Raya is considered best performing GK atm, its because he has had a lot more to do than before.

As you get older, you kinda realise that Vieira is our greatest player of all time really...even Henry and Bergkamp weren't quite as all-round complete footballers as Patrick, and that saying something!

I think Gilberto is a better player than Rice, but I can understand why some would pick Declan once he wins a title with us...but Paddy just can't be compared to anyone in our midfield right now, he was just too good/important to us.

No one has actually compared Rice’s overall play to Vieira. That would be absolutely ludicrous.

Are we just assuming that our first choice MF is going to be Rice-Ødegaard-Merino? The way Partey is playing and the way Mik seems to trust him completely, I'm not sure anymore.

Partey has a habit of breaking down just as soon as he becomes indispensable to the team.

So… yeah…

Arsenal Quotes

Religiously, it is said that God created man. I am only a guide. I allow others to express what they have in them. I have not created anything. I am a facilitator of what is beautiful in man.
