Dellas will only be another hopeful stop gap defender. We dont need that. We need a class CB who will stay in a starting position while Kolo is used as backup CB/RB.

His contract runs out at the end of the season so they want some money for him.

Dellas is not a short term option he is a class central defender! Sit down and watch some of Greeces games during Euro 2004 and you’ll see that. As for his time at Roma, Roma are in terrible shape at the moment and Dellas is consistently their best player and a crowd favourite, which is no mean feet considering the arrogant Italian mentality.

Dellas may lack some pace, but he reads the game well and has incredible poise. He's a prime example of how intelligence and instinct can overcome a lack of pace. Grranted his weaknesses are somewhat "covered" by playing sweeper, but his performance in Euro 2004 is not merely coincidental. You don't play against that type of competition and under that type of preasure and perform like Dellas did without being of some quality. He also may be lacking as a man marker in space, but his ability to read the play and close quickly makes it virtually a minor point.

You think of the players he marked out of games in the Euros Baros, Ronaldo and even your beloved Henry!
well said chris

another cygan; big, strong, good in the air, good on the ball, but slow and arrogant.

An interesting assesment of Cygan's abilities there, but what always disappoints me with Cygan is that he is big, but he is not strong and he is not good in the air - that's one of the big reasons are set piece defending totally fails when he comes into the team for Campbell. As for the arrogance, you're probably being a bit harsh there.

I actually have a feeling that if Edu goes, Dellas will be the player coming in... As Wenger said he is looking for a player with experience who will also be cheap. Dellas is your classical ball playing centre back in the Alan Hansen mould and although he lacks pace he is far superior to Cygan.. I just have a feeling that due to his excellent ability on the ball Wenger may see him as providing cover for Gilberto aswell.. In the same sort of way that Petit was a centre back at Monaco but Wenger utilised his other abilities (ie good touch, good passer and good awareness) in a holding role...

If Arsenal were in talks with them about Dellas moving they'd be telling them to keep quiet about it anyway.

Not sure if Dellas would be the right player for Arsenal, but he'd be dirt cheap anyway so he'd be worth trying. Useful in the air

If Wenger isn't prepared to spend a meagre 1million Euros or so on someone who'd definitely be more than solid back up, then he'd better be saving up to splash out on someone top quality in the summer. ;)
