To be fair they made two amazing defensive blocks which stopped otherwise certain goals. Also, how many saves did Raya actually make?
Exactly, & I can't recall Raya making a save either tbh. They had a couple of counters with Barcola, but Raya didn't need to make a save with those & the Vitinha chance he put over the bar.

It was fairly even as much as goalscoring opportunities go as far as I can remember 💁🏼‍♂️

Yeah a more interesting stat would be that PSG won the CL final with no goals from open play all game, with 1 shot saved.

But of course that doesn’t plug into the Anti Arsenal “football won” narrative.
And nobody will talk about how Luis Enrique "The Guardian of Football" went to a back 3 trying to force it to pens and didn't bother to attack at all in extra time while we played a 442 trying to win the match before pens. That also doesn't fit the narrative.

It's not a knock on Enrique but people should be honest about what actually happened. He realized they were never going to score from open play and hoped he'd win on pens. That's not "football winning". They're Champions again because of the referee and a couple of badly taken pens. Nothing more. All their brilliant football hit a dead end and produced nothing.

What's confusing about the thing that happened? Mendes stopped attacking and played as a third cb. A guy who plays basically as an auxiliary striker for them normally spent the entirety of extra time defending rather than attacking. Did you watch the match? They stopped trying to force the issue and were content to take it to pens, something even the commentators noted.

I guess we were not watching the same match.....Mendes was playing in a back 3 because Hakimi was basically playing as a right winger. Dude, we had 24% possession in extra time, on what planet were we trying to win?

So your contention is that Mendes playing CB and Hakimi playing as a RW when he normally makes runs into the box like a striker while Mendes does the same thing is more attacking? Ok, you don't understand football, cool. Possession numbers don't signal intent. PSG having a bunch of sterile possession and not committing isn't intent to win a football match.

They stopped attacking in any real numbers and played sideways. You can't name a time you've seen Enrique be that safe and sterile in a couple of years. When you're better at understanding what you see, quote me again, not until.

Listening to Arsecast extra, they make an interesting point that whilst the outcome on Saturday was very disappointing, if we had won the double it would raise the question of what then? There might have been a risk of a bit of a slump after summiting the mountain (like Rory McIlroy after achieving the Grand Slam).

Also a win might have papered over the areas where this team needs to be strengthened, notably in attack. Now it’s obvious to all

We are still a team on the up, not at the summit yet. Not at all a bad place to be

Arsenal Quotes

No one could have imagined for a single second that he would come to us. Only David Dein, Sol, his agent, and I knew what was going on. When I called a press conference to announce the arrival of a new player, and Sol Campbell walked into the room full of journalists, it was a bombshell.
