1: Arsenal/bayern Through to round of 16. Will either face Atalanta, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund or Olympiakos.

3: Liverpool/Sp**s Through to round of 16. Will either face Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Club Brugge or Galatasaray.

5: Barcelona/chelsea Through to round of 16. Will either face Paris St-Germain, Newcastle United, Monaco or Qarabag.

7: Sporting/Man city Through to round of 16. Will either face Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Bodo/Glimt or Benfica.

This is really not bad for pools/Sp**s as well. Atletico Madrid might frustrate one of them though.

Am I the only one who doesn’t watch group stages or even know who’s playing? I think the new format has really ruined the CL.
This setup also prevents clubs from playing a full B team of youngsters in the final group matches, which helps avoid match distortion and keeps the competition more honest.

I don’t think that was an issue with the older group stages as they were more often than not too close to start playing a bunch of youngsters.

This is clearly a better financial model. That’s all it is. Nothing to do with the game. The CL has lost it hype until it’s KO football.

It already lost the magic of the cup of champions when they introduced non champions of the national league able to enter the CL.

Same. Too many matches and too easy to qualify for the next round.

And also too imbalanced based on the luck of draw. Look at Spuds fixtures, its a joke.

@hydrofluoric acid tell us about viktor daðason. 17 year old 3 goals in the championship. Every time I asked about an Icelandic player you mentioned that player has interesting story with behaviour towards women. Not this kid surely

Thats more like from our golden generation players that won England at euros. I really stopped following Icelandic football around then.

Havent seen him play but technical standard from Icelandic players is rather low. Martinelly is better than our current best technical players.
