For the start of the new season, Arsenal Mania has relaunched the news side of the site. All articles are written by genuine Arsenal fans with no hidden agenda. You can visit the site via the menu at the top of the forum pages or go direct to our homepage

Additionally, Arsenal Mania is now sending all its registered members a bi-weekly Briefing Bulletin containing a digest of news and views from both parts of the site. Some of you may have already received the first edition and those that haven't should do so before the big kick off against United. If you are a guest visitor to this forum then if you join as a member, you will automatically receive the Bulletin.

As good a performance given the injuries as you could expect. Would‘ve liked to see a bit more rotation though with the Sunderland game on the horizon.

Merino up front it is then.

Happy with the win obviously but thought our penalty was ridiculously harsh on Slavia Prague, hate to see cheap penalties like that tbh.

That sidefoot volley was delightfully cushioned in midair by Merino. Anyone who has ever tried will know that's a difficult skill to master. Very impressed with the lads last night, they're all defensive monsters. THAT TACKLE BY GABRIEL OH MY WORD.

These are days you dream of as a fan, seeing the players leave everything out there on the pitch.

Well done, lads. Sunderland next, blimey!

Harsh but it's consistent with how handball is reffed in Europe so you can't say it was unfair.

Not really, it's extremely harsh. Pool had a pen overturned on the same night correctly as it was too harsh (hand close to body natural position)

That position didn't look like someone jumping for the ball. It was more like a kid raising a hand in class. I've never seen anyone jump with their hand up like that.

Not the same. Madrid player had his hand tucked to his body, Sparta player didn't, it was raised above his head. Still, by my preferred standards that shouldn't be a pen but by the standards UEFA are reffing by it was a correct decision on both occasions.

Arsenal Quotes

In June 1996, David Dein, Peter Hill-Wood and Danny Fiszman came out to Nagoya to meet me on behalf of Arsenal. Within an hour we came to an agreement. The Japanese directors didn't try to keep hold of me in the usual way but talked with persuasive arguments... But as far as I was concerned, the decision was taken. Arsenal. A decision that would change my life.
