imho the mistake was to crowbar Özil-auba-laca into the same team. Only 2/3 of these should start ..even if you play 2 up top.

Made us too top heavy and defensively understaffed, specially as none of the three are good at hold up play or aerially strong.

Mistake is playing 5 at the back, or overplaying Mustafi, Xhaka. Mistake was overlooking Ramsey during the first half of the season.
Özil-Laca-Auba is a necessity due to awful squad planning, we didn't have any other choice. I'm not arguing it was healthy or balanced, but the second choices behind them were terrible.

might have been worth a try to do Özil+laca/auba uptop in a 3-5-2. may have balanced the team a bit.

LoooL pretty sure 3 at the back isn't a modern tactic either . Actually Wenga' 3 at the back was more successfull than Emmo's 3 at the back.

Wenga went 3 at the back when he was in desperation mode after that Palace loss that killed our top4 hopes.

Been reflecting some more on Emery, his **** up of top 4 needs more scrutiny imo. Quite literally massively cost this club.

It would appear that while Emery has an input, it is his fellow Spaniard, Raul Sanllehi, who is head of football and is undoubtedly well connected from his Barcelona days. But there is confusion and not least because Arsenal have yet to appoint a technical director, as had been the intention. Unsurprisingly, there is talk that Emery is growing frustrated. He is not the only one around Arsenal to feel that way.

This from telegraph article earlier today regarding Zaha. And this is worrying because it clear emery want to new players and getting rid of few players and we are entering new season with nothing is done. It's not good.

Emery gets what he’s given after the end of last season. He shouldn’t have thrown the league if he wanted Zaha so much.
Well its not his fault the squad is unbelievably s**t still the club should do better

Unai should be frustrated with himself first and foremost, and I am still his supporter.

But he was supposed to understand the project and implement youth and he decided to sacrifice it for short-term UCL entry so bottling it in the manner we did it during the easiest run-in is honestly damaging long-term.

First, because now we're stuck with the same dross just a year older and no way to ship them out. Second, we don't have the pull because of no CL, not to mention the money. Third, there is no excitement surrounding youngsters because nobody got enough chances last season to make a mark (bar Guendouzi but that's Unai's pet project and wouldn't be surprised if he tries to bring him to his next club wherever he goes)

I think he frustrated because he want some of players from this squad gone he'll not play youngsters ahead of 550K Özil and Mkhi that'll never happen to any club or the same he won't start youngster ahead of Mustafi this will only destroy dressing room

Honestly I think he would be happier to see the back of some of these guys than to sign Zaha but nevertheless he should've done better.

He is a good coach and hopefully he'll learn from his mistakes from the next season since that's the only way to move forward.

It was truly a colossal failure by Emery. Didn't get CL, didn't build a team identity, didn't settle on a formation or playing style, didn't improve morale among players or fans, didn't blood in the younger players
