Been at the club a year and doesn't know about our players. Thought he had a USB with every player on and a plan to improve

You can criticise Emery for a lot of things, but you can't really criticise him for not knowing a youth prospect who according to MutableEarth didn't even play much for the U23's. How far down is he meant to look? That's precisely why you have others employed in those fields. Emery has enough on his plate already.

Emery should know all of them. He should read reports from u23 and u18 managers. It is important for these players. They want to play for him, that is their target. It is great confidence for the players that manager put interest in them.

Its also good for manager to know all the talents in the academy because he can take player from there any time during the year unlike in transfer window. Knowing these players can also be help to Emery.

Takes time to gain knowledge. Ferguson and Wenger knew about talented 11 year olds in their clubs, but it takes time to reach that level of management.

Emery has been here 12 months.

Only to a certain level. To be really considered for the first team you must be impressing in the U23's. It is usually way too big a gap to jump from U18's to the first squad. The time he is spending reading reports on U18's, we would prefer him to spend it teaching for example Kola how to fecking cross a ball .

You only have a certain amount of time, he has to mainly concentrate what is the most important. Ljungberg can always fill him in anyway.

Not asking him to know down to 11 years old... FFS...

At very least know u23. Emery said earlier that he and his coaches read the reports from Ljungberg. Take a little bit more interest. Show up for one or two games. Watch highlights. Know the players positions and names and have some idea what they could offer.

Just my opinion. Knowing u23 should be the minimum for him by now.

Its not really a theoretical physics learning to know 20 u23 players that might help you during season if there is a injury crisis.

Great manager should be prepared for anything and know the team and the club 100%.

If there is an injury crisis, we would use the better prospects of the U23's (Saka, JJ, Medley, Olayinka etc, not to mention the promoted ones Nketiah, Willock and Reis). No need to ever go even below that.

Manage the first team is a time consuming and demanding job, you really can't be looking at every youth player you have at the club. It just isn't possible.

When Jeff Bezos is looking to recruit people to senior roles from within Amazon, do you think he has time to look at every single employee? No he will select from the ones that have risen to the top and are close to making it. You have to delegate. If you are good enough you will eventually rise to the top and then Emery can't miss you.

Emery should know all the players at least in u23. Great manager would put a interest in everything football related at the club. U23 and u18 comes after senior team. Its good for players confidence that manager know about them.

Now I have this opinion. You have yours. Agree to disagree. Thank you. Have a good night mate!

For Ljungberg to be promoted to first team from U23, that is pretty damning for Emery.
The club hierarchy knew that Emery wasn't even interested in the reserves. That should have been a telling sign. Hopefully Raul has put some sort of quota for Emery to reach.
Our first team squad let us down big time last season - surely he can't think they wouldn't do it again. We have to inject fresh blood need competition. No one should be safe.

I think Emery is aware of (most of) the u23 players, but he obviously did not want to take a chance on them in his first season. To be fair, since the average PL coach gets less than 2 seasons, is it really surprising that developing youth is not top of mind? We also have to remember that Emery is not the manager of Arsenal, he is the first team head coach. We now have Edu (And also Ljungberg, Ben Knapper etc) in place to evaluate and handle player development.

I believe that we will see more young talent getting a chance this coming season with Edu/Ljungberg in place and Emery more familiar with the club and the players at various levels.

But Robbie Burton was barely u23 last season right?

With all due respect mate, you're not a Premier League football manager, and never have been. So you're opinion doesn't really count for much.
