Guys this isn't ****ing deep, Mikel Merino is scoring goals for us. An actual out and out CF will feast for us.

We've extracted 39 g/a across all competitions from our CF role this season - between Havertz, Jesus, Merino and Trossard when they've played upfront. While it's a problem area in that we didn't have a single guy delivering all of the contribution, we quite clearly are getting a lot from the incumbents of the role. As such, I don't think there is as much upside from signing a striker as people think.

The areas where we can improve in terms of end product are Ødegaard and Martinelli. I believe in both, but that's where the shortcoming is.

yepp, we dont have player as goal machine (consistent give goal week in week out) , front three attack supposed to be become goal machine give goal consistent week in week out

the only player that we have who can give consistent goal that is saka but still not good enough because he never score 20 goals in one season at EPL

Why has the ship sailed?
Because like you said, we’ve left it too long to go and get him.

Only banter era Arsenal would do something like sell your talisman to a team that you view as a rival.

Just once it would be nice to be on the other end of that but I feel like Newcastle would take a bid personally and start acting weird like Liverpool did with Suarez. They already think we’re rivals for some reason.

He would score plenty and the other attackers will also profit from him. He will bash defenders, run the channels, be a menace all game and this will create space for others, even against team that sit back.

Just hard to get a handle on, because he looks dominant in every way in Portugal, but the defending and the physicality there is, bar the top 3 teams, worse than the Championship, so translatability is hard to predict. He would certainly give us attributes we lack, but can he fit in with what we do at present? Not so sure of that, so it depends how much the manager is open to changing attacking patterns

Yep, great point.

It’s why I’m quite calm about who comes in at CF, provided we strengthen LW and AM properly.

Yep, and do you change attacking patterns for a guy who is relatively unproven at the level we play at? I’m not so sure…

13. That's why we easily went from Havertz to Merino. Not because they magically learned how to be STs after being bought as 8s, but because the way in which we develop attacking opportunities for that player, requires someone who can be in the box and do 1 of 2 things - finish well, or, arrive and physically disrupt defenders.
merino who never become attacking midfielder in his life career let alone play at striker position for become false nine & he just walk into this team for play at upfront as experiment (using that experiment in important match at ucl) the result is so far so good right now

even i saw merino barely drop deeper to midfield for help build up, he is more like little bit poacher (he is not spent so much time stay in the box like osimhen because merino still drop deeper around final third area like against real madrid & ipswich but he also not extreme when drop deeper for help build up like jesus in 22/23 season)

and most people doubt him for play at upfront because he never play at that position before and most people said he is not fit for our system bla bla bla bla bla

now imagine gyokeres who natural striker, i saw a lot time he can drop deeper more extreme than merino for help build up into middle third (just like false nine) + way better finisher than merino + he can dribble past defender + sometimes play on wide area + more press resistant than merino by miles because gyokeres has pace with physically strength .

best take, if we can coach merino into a serviceable psuedo 9, we can coach better qualities into a goal slut like gyokeres

Some question marks

They mention several in this video.

\- He relies very heavily on his ability to physically bully defenders, which is easier in the Portuguese league.

\- Nearly all his goals are either penalties or scored against the lower half of the league, where the level is not even Championship level.

\- He can't head the ball at all, and has like 1 headed goal of his last 68 goals. We like back post crosses and setpieces, for which he'd be useless.

\- He tends to drift to wide areas and doesn't stay centrally, which is what we like our striker to do.

\- His hold up play and technique is very average, which is a pretty important for how we use the 9 at the moment.

\- He is best when there is lots of space, but the main problem we have is that we struggle with low blocks with less space.

This all from the video.

You can't take players off these middle eastern clubs, Barca tried it on PSG with Veratti then PSG just went and got Neymar as a retaliation.

Look at how every top PL club apart from Man City ends up losing their best players to Real Madrid and Barca (before they went broke).

Arteta won't go with Gyokeres.
He will go with Sesko or Hugo or More opportunistic Delap.

Isak seems to be unavailable no. 1 choice.

Given how none of the strikers are difference makers aside from Isak I don't really care who we get because we still have Havertz. All about that LW signing and/or the L8/LCAM.
