Do you now wish he has of left in the summer?
Just discussing this on saturday with some mates, came to the conclusion that he has been **** all this season and had it been a new player coming in and playing like this then he would of been dropped a long time ago. Is he injured? Unlikely, he has had half a season to get back to fitness. Is he mentally ****ed? Maybe, but why? Is there to much pressure on him? Doubtfull when the emphasis seems to be on the young guns this year. Or is it just he is past it, just like pires and bergy??? Just think what we could have with 25 million in our back pockets, lets be honest, on his form this year we wouldnt of missed him. gilberto and cesc would be our best combo at the moment.
Vieira really needs to be dropped, he has been playing crap and is being made to look at tart by a 17 year old. Personally ive always thought him overated and would of been happy for him to leave in the summer. The thought of 25 million towards building up our squad which is currently dangerously small is mouth watering. Will madrid be back next year for him? Will he leave then? Would we want him to stay or would we want the money?
Now personally i would of prefered the money this year, but thats just me, ive never rated him as the worlds best unlike some here. Dont get me wrong, i think he is a good player and he has been our backbone for some years, but i thought last year, then with the madrid fiasco and now this years performances that he really isnt worth that price tag, and that money would be very handy. Im not bashing him/slagging him off, and im not doing this because of one bad game, facts are he has been poor the last 6 months and this whole thread isnt about his ability, but about whether or not we should of/you would of taken the money last summer? Lets be truthful, the only reason paddy is here still is because madrid wouldnt offer him that extra few quid, did anyone actually swallow that tripe that he loved the club :?
I would of sold him

I think we would have soldiered on fine with out him. Am I happy he stayed...yes. Would I be happy if the team had an extra 25 mil...yes.
Half empty - Half full
As far as ability, he's good but I agree that really I don't think he is the absolute bar none best MF on the planet. It's tough to say that about most positions. How can there be a "best" when every player can have sh*te performances, or commanding match winning performances (which we've all seen from Paddy over the course of things.) Up until this season I think he was easily the most influencial player in the dressing room. The other players respected him and he led with unanimous consent. This summer the entire "Madrid thing" didn't go down as smoothly as everyone involved had hoped for (well duh...) Of course I don't swallow the "loved the club" line. Then why all the drawn out stalling?
But bottom line, I think he stayed not because Madrid didn't cough up the extra dough. But because he thought staying here was the best thing for his career. He believes in Wenger, the Club, and the players. He lost some respect from key players things in the dressing room, and obviously on the pitch haven't been the same. So I guess I could finally say yes, I suppose I would be happier if we had sold him, but hey I'm still happy that he's still here. .

great another f*n poll about vieira
why dont you get a job so you can actually do something in your spare time
You quite clearly can tell from the title its a poll about vieira, well done you are a very clever little boy, now if you have a problem with these sort of threads why dont you do the simple thing and ignore it  And as for a job, why do you think i am on this site? To kill time while i am bored at work, as i am sure most of the adult users that are on here do to.

Can you imagine what we would be saying if Vieira left in the summer and we were in this position?

Call me optmistic, but i believe his performances at some point will rise. Perhaps when it matters too.

tell me if we sell vieira, whos gonna replace him? where are we going to sign another world class player with little money?

he's our captain and i believe sooner or later he'll find back his form. keep the faith huh. 8)

we should've sold him, the biggest problem is that he's our captain but bar that, theirs nothing that even says he deserves to be starting or finishing games at the moment.

He CHOSE to stay. Apparently the deal with Real was agreed but he had a last minute change of heart.

Yes he is off form but i recall Gerrard, Keane and all the other best DM;s having a bad run of form. PV4 is having his.
Last season he was superb, driving us to the unbeaten run along with the others.

Sometimes i hate being a Gooner, our fans are fickle and do we really get behind the team? Imagine Highbury with Portsmouth like support, it would be a fortress.

I can't get tickets to visit that often so instead follow Cardiff, that is support. Half the crowd- double the passion. Against Leeds in the FA cup 2 years back the crowd literally overwhelmed the Leeds players.

In the summer i hated PV4 as to the way he conducted the whole business. Now i am 100 percent behind him - he's our CAPTAIN!!

Stop whinging and start a fanatical period of support - IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!

change of heart or being told he wouldn't earn as much as the other galatico's and being told that he was gonna be a holding player rather than an expressive player like he gets away with now even when it costs us.

and the difference between keane, steven and paddy is that only paddy plays for us and is costing us points at the moment.

No.

All this talk about how crap he's played this season, people forget how good he is once he finds some form. At his best, he's on par with players like Lampard etc

He provides something no other CM in our team provides; strength, defensive attributes, and a great head.

If we sold him, who would we have bought who can replace him? He's got all the attributes for a CM.

Now, with Gilberto/Edu injured this season, we would have been playing our games with Fabregas/Flamini in midfield [if we sold Vieira], unless we bought a replacement, which is stupid if we didn't.

Now, will we be winning games with a Cesc/Flamini in CM? With all due respect, they're wonderful players, but can they go up against the more physical older players? Against Chelsea that is a exception, but they just don't have the strength yet.

In recent matches, I remember people saying he was MOTM in one instance and back to his best, and after one poor match, everybody is criticising him again and saying he's been **** all season.

When judging a player, you shouldn't just pick out their poor performances, how many of you have thought about what he has provided this season?

Now, it doesn't matter if he's captain or not, it's the fact that he is Worldclass center midfielder and you cannot hide the fact that that is why we kept him.

Do you ever have anything to say that isn't stirring **** up?

I'm sick of saying it, the captain WILL come good. And if he doesn't Wenger will get rid, and watch how many teams will be after him should that happen (which it won't). Definitely happy he stayed.

By the way, great post Spike. Well said.

Simple answer is no. Henry came out the other day and said he would of questioned his future with arsenal if Patrick left. I think this would of had a domino effect on the rest of the squad. Patrick has not become a crap player all of a sudden, he will find form again, it just might be we will have to wait until the start of next season.

Give the man some time . . . he's been gradually improving and when he's back to his best everyone here will start making threads on how frekin awesome he's been.

At his best he makes Lampard look like a *****. Even in average form Vieira is more than a match for fat Frank.

i admit i do stir sometimes but only for threads sake not miliciously, but this was actually an honest opinion and yes i've not been won back by him, but it's still my honest personal opinion that i feel he should've gone, i honestly think that with £25 million we could've bought in some much needed rotational squad depth. no one would like for paddy to be doing better than me, it would mean points and i want a few more trophies to gawp at. and if i'm honest i would've dropped paddy, but i said that in another post in more detail.

No, for 3 reasons:

1) All the injuries so far
2) He's captain and his departure would have potentially screwed up some of the other frenchies. Henry said he might have left, Bob may have started thinking about retiring, etc.
3) I think he'll pull himself together yet. Even off-form, there's no gaurantee AW could have found someone as good.

Although I'm still optimistic he will improve, I am beginning to think that we might be going into phase 3 of the Wenger era and maybe if his performances don't improve at the end of the season, it is time for him and us to move on.

Problem is, it's not so simple because of his connections with the other players here. Particularly the French ones.

I think it was right that we kept him. I'm sure it will work out in the end.

spot on guv; vieira has been sh*te all season. for me, the game at home to city was the ultimate example of vieira's demise. he was shockingly poor; gave the ball away a lot of times, extremely poor work rate and he didn't get stuck in. "leading by example", yeah right, if they all played like vieira, we'd be heading for the championship...
