This is crazy. But are the 3 top Portuguese team beholden to Jorge Mendes power? It seems you can’t operate at the highest level in Portugal without having relationship with him. Overall it’s sad Gyokeres leaves as hated player despite the success he brought to Sporting last 2 years
The portuguese market is small, so everything revolves around him. His player agency is like the main hub in a network of smaller agencies run by other agents.

He signs the best young players early, but he’s also involved in almost every big transfer. He helps clubs get the money they need to balance their finances, and he usually takes a cut from major deal, even when he’s not the player’s official agent. For example, Darwin’s agent isn’t Mendes, but Mendes handled the deal and earned a commission, the same with Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea and many other deals.

All three big clubs need Mendes, but some depend on him more than others. Benfica has a very close—and very murky—partnership with him. Since Varandas became president, Sporting has also started working with Mendes in a similar way. FC Porto is a bit different: under their old president Pinto da Costa, they also relied heavily on Mendes. But with André Villas-Boas now in charge, Porto is trying to be more independent and more opened to the market.

The risk of depending too much on Mendes is that while you make a lot of money selling players, you also have to buy players from his list—often at overvalued prices. That can come at a big cost. The Gyokeres replacement is a perfect example. Luis Suarez is a good player, but he has 27 years, plays for Almeria in the spanish 2nd division, and only had one great season in his career. Sporting is paying 25M€ for him and 10% is for Jorge Mendes.

Just sign both. Gyokeres LW and Isak CF can actually work. KSE just need to open their wallet and we will deal with PSR later.

I really don't see the value in signing Isak for over £100m, if we're paying that kind of money they need to be available every single week, and his history shows he cannot handle 2 games per week

Obviously we can rotate more than Newcastle can, but for me the value for us at £130m is to definitely spend it on Gyokeres and Eze, they will cover more of our needs to provide the depth we require and variation in what we do

If we go into next season and everyone stays fit and in the squad then he is the next level type of signing, but due to PSR we aren't in the position to put the cherry on the cake yet, liverpool sadly are due to how prudent they have been in recent years, and in particular how well they've sold players

Arsenal Quotes

When we won the league at Tottenham, they came back 2-2 in the last-minute of the game, and they're celebrating - because they're happy to draw against us, obviously. And I remember saying to Mauricio Tarricco who injured himself celebrating in front of me: "Do you realise we only need a point to be Champions?" And he was utterly shocked. So I said "Yes. Now watch as we're going to celebrate on your pitch. Bye bye!"
