I'm all for Gyokeres to prove doubters wrong and succeed but this narrative that everyone around him is at fault for not scoring is nuts.

His positioning in the penalty box has been crap and he takes way too many touches which ruin the majority of his chances.

Btw, our players know very well how to play with a forward that makes runs in behind. Havertz, Martinelli, Saka, and others do it and surprisingly they're often found.

I'd say the biggest improvement Gyokeres is reduce his touches. More first time shoots, if not, at best 1 touch.

Exactly this. People forget a player first test is always to prove himself with his team mates. And if they don’t see your quality they won’t pass to you much. If players really believe in your technical ability they pass to you even in tight areas. They clearly seen enough to realise he sucks on the ball
It’s happened enough to notice but not enough to be sure they don’t rate him.

Some of our players just have their own things going on at the moment like Saka being a big greedy recently or Ødegaard and his issues with direct play.

Can it not both be true that when Gyökeres got injured, he was looking pretty good and it is unfortunate timing. Meanwhile Kai Havertz whilst not a striker has also been pretty good in an Arsenal shirt, all barring his midfield spells which didn't really work.

I just don't think it's that extreme in all cases. Gyökeres has struggled, is not an elite player but still has a chance to be an excellent goal scorer, and it could use adapting on both sides. Havertz has pretty much justified 65m in today's market, and they both have an opportunity to really help us get over the line.

We are so quick to turn on players sometimes.

This time last season - Havertz had 10 goals in all competitions. Which is more than Gyokeres, Isak, Ekitike, Woltemade, Marmoush have managed so far this campaign by the same date. Yet, all I keep hearing is we can easily do better.

The fee is starting to look rather normal albeit without adjusted for inflation - so the only thing left is the wage.

I also have faith in Gyokeres to come good.

Yeah agree with this, I don't particularly care or want Gyokeres to drop deep, I want him making relentless channel runs in behind the opposing defence.

I agree. We've seen him do it in many games. I don't want him to overly adapt. I want us to play those balls early.

One of the things I don't love about our current playstyle, is that we don't transition as quick as I'd like. We don't play those early balls. It makes us look very incompatible with a guy like Gyökeres. I know it is part of a larger tactical framework, but there have been many instances where we don't play the ball. I'm not talking about just to Gyök either. Everybody needs too many touches.

I'd rather he didn't try to adapt too much to this within the game. We have Havertz and Merino for this. We need to play to them differently, and this is an area I can certainly see room to improve.

It is strange the issues aren’t there for Gyokeres against Burnley or other relegation fodder.

This could be telling us something.

since newcastle game & before he get injured, we play more direct, quick transitions & counter attack

you can find that when against atletico madrid, newcastle, olympiacos

The whole thing is being a bit exaggerated if you ask me.

He got two against Atletico, skipped the Brighton cup game and then bagged against Burnley, only to get injured. He'll be back with a run of starts. A striker who can do this isnt a bust all of a sudden.

19 mins against Chelsea wasnt much and neither was 8 mins against Brentford. He got much more against Villa and Brugge but Im not panicking just yet.

there was also Crystal Palace in this spell he was atrocious.

the goals against Atletico were fortunate, to be kind. and nothing to do with his “strengths” people want us to play to.

Its fair.. Gyokeres was better until he got injured and Ødegaard came back from his injury...
Gyokeres needs to improve himself of course.
But our midfielders must play more direct if Gyokeres is on the pitch...
Jesus, Havertz, and Merino have more touches and have more opportunities because our midfielders always play with this kind of striker. They dont run behind defenders.

why the hell odeghost (ghost of norway) in same area with ben white who play at right back, what a useless footballer that is especially he is attacking midfielder & based on that picture he only play football with player at rhs area, absolutely mess and rubbish

yeah what ever you arteta fraud, go on keep that style but this manager better win the league this season with that style

"Arteta can play with an extra midfielder as 9 since that’s what he wants"

Exactly this. His teammates won’t pass him the ball if they trust don’t him.

It's like in real life, you don't get the ball if we don't trust you. When you play with your friends, is the same stuff; if you suck, you are not going to get the ball.
Simple as.

But he is not very good technically so when we are building up play, if someone else is free, that other player is going to get the ball, not him.

not true at all, if you all watch this video

I think he's getting his goal against Wolves. Against teams from position 10 and below he should score comfortably by bullying his way through.

Feels like Gyokeres is damned whether he does or doesn't score today against the relegation fodder.
